From the Paper:"The various countries that are now collectively known as the Caribbean were originally European colonies. Eventually almost all of them have become independent nations. However, they have taken different routes to become independent nations. The two most common routes are revolution and decolonization. Although there are many similarities between these two phenomena there are also important differences. To demonstrate these differences we will look at how two Caribbean countries got their independence. The countries that will be examined are Haiti and the Dominican Republic."
