From the Paper:"These dimensions can help to tell what is going on within the organization. That is where project resources come into play. A project cannot be completed or in some cases, even started if there are not any resources, or if resources are scarce. Why take on a project that you know in advance, you do not have the resources to complete? So how does project structure relate to organizational culture? Project structures are influenced by the size of project, the strategic importance, the need for innovation, budget and time constraints and the stability of resource requirements. The three project structures are functional organizations, dedicated project teams and matrix structures. In dedicated project teams, duties consist of tasks associated with the current project only, while in a matrix structure, the teams can consist of both functional team members and project dedicated teams. In functional organizations, the managers will report to one person who provides them with the guidance and coordination needed to complete the project. Mantech uses the functional organizational structure. The project managers report directly to program directors for their site. The project director finds and recruits team members and assigns each team a site manager. The project manager provides the program director with daily statuses showing personnel and other resources used, current and future tasks and cost. This will show the government how much is required and how much is being spent for this project. All three structures represent the major approaches for organizing projects."
