From the Paper:

"Nathaniel Hawthorne's story "Young Goodman Brown" is a story of allegory, in which the writer introduces a significant amount of characters, who represent quite abstract ideas. In order to focus on the artistic dimensions of the text, the writer used a series of imagery elements that created a solid, vital sensation of the events depicted in the story. Imagery elements tend to create a relevant mental picture in the minds of the readers, who in turn visualize better the ideas implied by the author. To evoke these vivid pictures in the consciousness of the readers, writers usually create a distinct image through the use of appropriate literary techniques that are extensively focused on revealing the capacity of both descriptive and figurative language (Levy 375). In this way, writers represent ideas, objects and actions that affect the physical senses of the readers. Usually these are evocative and expressive words in literature and in art, which represent various imagery pictures. Through metaphors, proverbs and parables, authors try to transform readers' sensory perception. Such elements have been incorporated into Hawthorne's story, and the objective of this essay is to present the specific way in which the writer created a specific reader experience through the use of various literary techniques.
"The story "Young Goodman Brown" is a brief story of the gradual loss of innocence and the progressively faded faith. This is an allegory that represents the dominance of evil and corruption as part of the nature of man. The aim of Nathaniel Hawthorne's work is to critique the moral society in the 17th century in puritan New England. The purpose of the writer also reflects in the importance to expose the hypocrisy of Christian society and culture in his literature. This short story is a story of a young man, who has lost his faith in the values of society and humanity."
