Description:

This paper explores the problem of corporate social responsibility and, in particular, the question of are corporations good at being good. The theoretical frameworks that are contrasted in addressing this question are the neoclassical and the Keynesian perspectives, and the historical and geographical scope is the post-Second World War period within a global frame. This paper argues the position that the Keynesian theoretical perspective is more accurate than the neoclassical at addressing questions associated with corporate social responsibility although, as is seen, it is not a faultless approach by any means. The primary ethical issues in this debate are the conflicting claims of freedom and justice, which are assessed from a utilitarian ethical position.
