Description:

This paper analyzes and reviews two plays, George Ryga's "The Ecstasy of Rita Joe" and Wendy Lill's "The Occupation of Heather Rose" in light of their portrayal of the conflict between Native and White societies in Canada. Both plays deal little with the actual causes of these conflicts, and both show firsthand the culture clash between "Indians" and "Whites." Additionally, both show the tragic consequences that ensue from this clash. This paper compares and contrasts how the two plays explore these issues within the context of each play.
