In this article, the writer discusses stem cell research that has become an abortion issue because of the destruction of embryos created through in-vitro fertilization. The writer points out that those embryos were not created for research but for implantation, and they are to be destroyed because no implantation is going to take place. The writer maintains that the attack on this research makes no sense in itself but only because it has been tied to the idea that life begins at conception, even in a glass tube, though there seem to be no rallies to stop in-vitro fertilization or even the destruction of embryos unless that destruction is carried out as medical research.
From the Paper:"The abortion debate seems never to reach a conclusion and simply expands into different areas when opponents of abortion find a way to make the new area part of the old. This is seen in the new battle over stem-cell research, which actually has nothing to do with abortion at all but which some groups have made into an abortion issue because of the destruction of embryos created through in-vitro fertilization."
