This admissions essay expresses a prospective high school English teacher's desire to become a teacher. The essay traces the author's academic history from undergraduate to graduate school and shares anecdotes from substitute teaching, as the writer suggests that these experiences will help positively influence the lives of students.
From the Paper:"Oddly enough, it was never my intention to become a teacher when I was younger; I planned to become a writer and/or an artist. However, I transferred to the college I eventually graduated from, and was advised by someone I trusted to major in education, so I did. Because I loved art so much, I worked towards a certification in art. During this time, I also worked at the local community center as an assistant to the director of an after school art program. It was my job to help the students create art projects, and eventually, I was given my own painting class to teach once a week. Due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to complete my path of teaching and became an art major instead. I completed the requirements for a bachelor's in fine arts, but without a teaching certificate, this degree did not serve me very well, so I decided to go to graduate school. "
