Classroom Management term papers and essays
Classroom management refers to that very essential aspect of teaching - controlling the students. While many teachers are well-educated and thoroughly qualified to teach their particular subject or grade-level, and while they may enjoy studying and have a deep admiration for their topic material, many teachers are frustrated and unhappy because of classroom management issues. While classroom management issues may be caused by a variety of circumstances such as large student teacher ratios, there are steps that teachers can take to rectify behavioral issues in the classroom. Sometimes behavioral situations are caused by student boredom. Teachers may address this problem by analyzing their lecturing style and ensuring that it is neither droning nor halted by fillers such as "like", "and" or "um". An effective teaching style grabs students' attention with appropriate humor and pregnant pauses. Pauses between sentences eliminate the drone and cause students to anticipate the next bit of information. Pauses also allow students to think for themselves and not become overwhelmed with receiving too much information too quickly. Another classroom management strategy is to begin the teaching term with a set of rules and expectations. When students can expect a certain routine and can expect that infractions will be dealt with swiftly and fairly, they feel secure within their parameters and more able to turn their attentions to the project or lesson at hand.
