CANCER term papers and essays

Cancer is the umbrella term for a group of different diseases where the binding factor is the presence of unregulated cell growths. Known in medical terms at malignant neoplasm, cancer sees the cells divide and grow, invading other parts of the body through the formation of malignant tumors. Another way for the cancer to spread is via the bloodstream or lymphatic system. There are many different causes of cancer, ranging from genetic factors to the use of products such as tobacco, an unbalanced diet and infection. Cancer screening involves effects to detect cancer after it has formed in the body, but before symptoms appear. This type of screening generally involves blood counts, urine tests, physical examinations and medical imaging. Some of the more common cancer types are breast cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer. Cancer prevention takes on many forms, and because so many of the risk factors are due to the environment and a person's lifestyle, it is concerned a preventable disease. Dietary changes, for example, could lower one's chances of developing cancer, such as limiting intake of red meat and consuming more fruit and vegetables. Some vaccinations have been developed to prevent infection from viruses that may cause cancer, such as Cervarix which decreases the risk of developing cervical cancer.
