Cunningham states that e-enabled businesses can grow and expand so rapidly that if scalability is not built into the system, technological infrastructures can become antiquated within a period of months because of the wide exposure that internet based operating platforms provide (2001, p.93). Additionally, scalability is a quality that enhances the geographic diversity that many organizations exhibit in the contemporary business environment. Scalability ensures that any remote addition to an operation can simply plug-in to the existing IT infrastructure without burdening the overall system."
