It had been independent for some time had begun to show innovation and entrepreneurship and had even fought multiple wars and conflicts and looked to expansion and even imperial holdings. Yet, the paper shows how despite its already rich history, despite even having the trappings of a traditional American folklore from the likes of Washington Irving, American seemed to still lack a classical and poetic tradition.
