"Sir" or "Ma'am" might be used in some circumstances, such as when addressing adults who are strangers. For example, "Excuse me, Sir" if you bump into a strange man. Asking: When approaching a stranger to ask a question, always interrupt by saying, "Excuse me". Once you have the person's attention, look them in the eye and ask the question directly."
