Paper Summary:
A paper which analyzes the ideas and central themes of this four-part book written by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The paper shows that the character of Zarathustra is merely a mouthpiece for its author and the book therefore develops into an assertion of Nietzsche's core philosophy and values, including the concepts of the Ubermensch, the "will to power", and the statement for which he is probably best remembered, ?God is dead". The paper asserts that "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", must be considered as not only a work of philosophy, but also as one of the most influential literary works to have been produced in the nineteenth century.
From the Paper:
"The major strength of Nietzsche?s philosophy lies in the fact that his writings are not intended to promote wholesale adoption of his ideas, but are designed to encourage the reader to think about, and critically examine, issues and values which they had previously taken for granted, and apply the conclusions to their own personal belief systems and circumstances. "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", and the ideas that are addressed within it, are left open for individual perception and interpretation which, to many people in today?s society of spoon-fed information and neatly packaged ideas, has gained Nietzsche?s work unfair reputations, ranging from being too difficult to understand, to it being condemned as evil and offensive."
