The author points out that the first thing the employee in this case needs to learn as a corporate person is to never promise never: She should not have agreed to confidentiality before knowing what information she was going to be given, which put her in a difficult position when she tried to verify the information. The paper stresses that, while the superior did have the right to demand to know the name of the informant, he did not have the right to threaten the employee's job if she would not tell.
