It shows that the book is divided into three categories and an epilogue, it is a pulpit for Kincaid to rail against colonialism, oppression, and poverty and a cry for her people to create a better life on the island of Antigua. Kincaid hates colonialism, and this is entirely obvious in her story, filled with her anger and hatred against the whites that have ruled the politics and business of her island for centuries.

"A Small Place," written by Jamaica Kincaid and published in 1989 by Penguin Books in New York, is the story of the author's birthplace, the island of Antigua. Kincaid received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1986, which helped support her as she wrote the book. In this short, 81-page text, the author does not attempt to hide her hate of the white colonials who have ruled her island for hundreds of years, or the white tourists who come to gawk at the residents and the historic buildings."
