This paper explores the issue of sex within Christianity. The paper begins by defining that while sex itself is not forbidden, sex outside of marriage along with any other similar acts such as incest and rape is considered a grave sin, referred to as "going after strange flesh? in the Old Testament. The paper includes a review of the some of the literature on the topic as well as a brief history of sex in Christianity, ultimately rejecting extreme views and presenting the middle path.

"It is quite strange that some very open-minded Greeks also actively spoke against sexual gratification and their beliefs were grounded in repression philosophies. Origen (c. 185-254), a Greek philosopher felt that: "Everyone who is not yet rid of the vexation of the flesh and blood and not ceased to feel passion of his bodily nature should refrain completely from reading this book" (Francoeur). He even had himself castrated to gain more spiritual power and to control his sexual urges."
