After a few years in prison, Machiavelli became a writer of political philosophy who did his primary work during this period. Because of his unorthodox views, he virtually developed a whole new way of analyzing government and its behavior and purpose. Machiavelli was also extremely interested in history, and developed many of his theories as a result of historical research."
