Layne, 526 U.S. 603 (1999) concerning media ?ride-alongs? during the execution of a warrant. This case illustrated the court?s attempt to elude creating ex post facto law, and this paper serves to examine the effects and ethical dilemmas brought forth by this case.

"On the morning of April 16, 1992, several marshals and local law enforcement officers forcibly entered the home of Charles and Geraldine Wilson at 909 North Stone Avenue in Rockville, Maryland. They did so intending to apprehend Dominic Wilson, 27 year old son of Charles and Geraldine, for whom three arrest warrants had been issued. Charles and Geraldine were awoken by the sound of the forced entry. Charles, wearing only his underpants, rushed to the living room asking that the officers, dressed in plain clothes with guns drawn, ?state their business?. The officers, initially believing Charles to be Dominic Wilson, quickly subdued Charles, forcing him to the floor. Mrs. Wilson then entered and informed the officers of her husband?s identity. The officers then, under the authority of the warrant, performed a search of the premises, but were unable to locate Dominic."
