This paper discusses the implications of assisted suicide. It explains that those in support of the practice depict the debate as being over euthanasia (a term derived from the ancient Greek notion of appropriate suicidal execution and translated as good death) and that this paradoxical term proceeds from the idea that there is a circumstance where suicide or the assistance thereof is an acceptable resolution. The paper also points out that there is a strong framework of precedent from a number of social sectors, most primarily those in the legal profession, medical associations and philosophical discourse, which reveals that there is never a point at which assisted suicide is anything less than murder. The paper goes on to discuss the sanctity of human life. In conclusion, the paper shows that after any categorical investigation of the assisted suicide debates, it becomes quite lucid that the argument of 'choice' holds very little merit when juxtaposed to the arguments of constitutional law, medical science and ethical philosophy.

"Though suicide, as an autonomous and self-executed act, is no longer considered a felony, thus removing a sociological obligation to prosecute anybody in the peripheral sequence of such an occurrence, there is still of mire of culturally derived interpretations of the constitutionality of allowing or forbidding physician assisted suicide. But as it currently stands, the practice is pervasively regarded by United States law as manslaughter, with its perpetrators subject to prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. This position is perfectly captured by the troubling and celebrated Terri Schiavo case which is still an ongoing controversy in the state of Florida. Governor Jeb Bush intervened on behalf of the comatose patient's parents to prevent the vegetative woman's husband from having her feeding tube removed, which would have terminated her life. The governor offered a brief that indicated the legal crux of the matter, assessing that the "potential for irrevocable harm to Terri Shiavo is real and imminent."
