Paper Summary:

This paper explains that, in "The Sick Rose", William Blake regards "innocence and free" love to be a great human gift; however, it is too fragile to be destroyed. The author points out that Blake uses a "rose", which historically signifies femininity, to provide the reader with a sense of the homosexual's feminine and frail nature. The paper relates that Kate Chopin's fiction "The Story of an Hour" emphasizes the belief that marriage without true love is a trap. The author suggests that, unlike the other two literature works, "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare is a tragedy full of contrasts of immature love and long standing hate, humor and sorrow, peace and conflict and life and death. The paper concludes that the most important aspect of the definition of "love" is the individual's interpretation of the emotions, which accompany "love".

The last three lines further demonstrate a significant theological concept that no doubt Blake is trying to transmit. Both the "bed of crimson joy" and the "dark secret love" seem suggestive of an embarrassment of a sexual act. These two symbols refers to the innocence of youngsters being lost to the sexual acts which stay under wraps,..."
