Abstract
This paper examines the contribution of William Morris to the history of interior design. In understanding Morris' diverse work, it is argued that Morris' efforts to reform the aesthetics of interior design in the late nineteenth century England were closely associated with his ideas on social reform. The paper further asserts that, in this context, it can be seen that Morris' early medievalism in particular played an important role in shaping his views on interior design and also influenced his social and political ideas.

Edmund Morris' "Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan", 2005.

Abstract
This paper explains that, in Edmund Morris' "Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan", Morris introduces himself into the narrative both as a true eyewitness and as a fictional one, who is both older and more American than the authentic Morris and lives a life oddly paralleled to Reagan's life. The author points out that, while "Dutch" clearly is not a traditional biography, it adheres to the most important aspects of the fundamental biographical style in that it provides the reader with ample information about Reagan through the most significant moments of his life. The paper relates that Morris developed this style because, despite having been paid more than $2.9 million to write an official biography, Morris found himself deterred by a calculated silence on Reagan's part, which left the author grappling to find who Reagan really was as a man.

From the Paper
"Throughout the course of the book, Morris again and again refers to Reagan in physical form, noticing his "deep-chested" strength as a youth, his elegant aging as a 30-year-old actor, and his stiff comportment as a President. At times the descriptions slide into the sensual: "That hard, splendid body, those bruising arms and knees, the prickle of wet wool..." describes the young lifeguard Reagan. Later, "that quiet, palpable mass, at once majestic and unthreatening. It's not simply an aggregate of height and breadth....he [crowds] one's horizon." While these descriptions may seem to be the result of literary license, emphasizing the body rather than the man, they have the distinct effect of creating a character who is almost a paperboard cut-out. By focusing on the two-dimensional, this effect iterates the importance of Reagan's "acting" rather than his authentic "feeling"."

William Morris, 2007.
A biography of the life of poet and artist William Morris.

» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper looks at the life of William Morris, a nineteenth century poet, artist, designer, and socialist reformer, noted for, among other things, his designs in stained glass. The papr relates how, in his work, Morris emphasized craftsmanship and the natural beauty of materials and that, in this regard, Morris' work was a reaction against the heavily ornate and mass-produced goods of the Victorian era.

From the Paper
"When Morris was at Oxford, he read Ruskin's work and later embarked upon a career in the decorative arts, which was then not seen as a "suitable" occupation for a man of the upper middle classes, though Harvey states that "he must have taken heart from Ruskin's assertion that the decorative arts were serious arts, because, along with architecture, they created the visual environment in which men and women lived" (Harvey 15). Ruskin elevated images of medieval society, showed a preference for hand-crafted wares, and insisted that the artist, designer, and craftsman should be seen as one."

Pain as Represented in the Works of C. S. Lewis and David Morris, 2002.
This essay explores how the issue of pain is reflected in the writings of C.S Lewis and David Morris.
800 words (approx. 3.2 pages), 3 sources, MLA, $ 28.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This essay explores the works of David Morris and C. S. Lewis and how each believes that pain contributes to spirituality and faith. Particularly, the paper explores the texts "The Culture of Pain" (Morris) and "A Grief Observed" (Lewis). The author of the paper discusses how pain was treated in the past via religion as "visionary" and how it is treated these days as first crippling, then visionary. The paper shows that Morris believes pain can be visionary?hence his term ?visionary pain? while Lewis believes pain is the instrument not of a cosmic Sadist, but a cosmic Healer.

From the Paper
"The pain C. S. Lewis describes feeling after the death of his wife in A Grief Observed is?at least initially?radically different than the pain David Morris describes in the chapter six, ?Visionary pain and the politics of suffering,? in his book The Culture of Pain. The design of this essay is to explore these two authors, uncovering how each believes pain contributes to spirituality and faith."

Abstract
This paper critiques and reviews Dick Morris' 1996 book, "Behind the Oval Office" about the presidency of Bill Clinton. The paper discusses the book's portrayal of the professional relationship between Morris and Clinton and examines key issues such as Morris' evaluation of Clinton.

From the Paper
"Dick Morris's account of what he refers to as President Bill Clinton's comeback in the presidential election in the wake of the midterm elections in which the Republican Party took over a majority in both houses of Congress is part melodrama, part history and part confessional. Most of all however it develops into something of a handbook or instruction manual for shaping strategy or the big picture and tactics or implementation of big-picture goals during the American electoral process. That is not to suggest that Morris'..."

"The Naked Ape" and Morris' View on Imprinting, 2008.
A review of Desmond Morris' views on imprinting as discussed in "The Naked Ape" and a comparison of his views with those of L. Salk.

» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper explores the third chapter of Desmond Morris', "The Naked Ape," as it relates to the development of human children. It discusses the content of the chapter under discussion and describes Morris' view on imprinting. The paper compares Morris' view with that of L. Salk and his strong case for imprinting. It concludes that these individuals are very similar, but their methods differ.

From the Paper
"In the end, Desmond Morris relies heavily upon the work of Salk in the third chapter of his book. Instinctively, I am inclined to think that Morris is correct in dismissing left-handed cradling; I am also inclined to think that the matter is more complicated than he acknowledges - especially given the findings of later research. Fundamentally, I prefer Salk's findings to Morris' simple regurgitation of them; by engaging in original research, Salk gives his conclusions an authenticity that Morris does not. Furthermore, Morris' refusal to cite studies supporting the arguments of critics insisting that left-handed cradling is caused by "right-handedness" in society leaves the reader with the impression that he erected a "straw-man" so that his own argument would be strengthened."

Abstract
This paper looks at the life of Richard Morris Hunt (1827-1895) who was born in Brattleboro, Vermont and is considered one of the most respected architects of his time. It discusses how he was awarded many professional honors and was one of the most highly acclaimed Americans of the nineteenth-century. It briefly examines Hunt?s education and career and evaluates his work in terms of his contributions to architecture, to New York City and his influence on city architecture. It also looks at some key works he designed and created including his most monumental work, the base of the Statue of Liberty. Pictures of some his works are included.

From the Paper
"The industrial age, however, had produced new methods and materials that opened up novel possibilities. Engineers and industrialists, for example, had perceived the potentialities of cast iron, long before architects began to speculate on its creative applications to their craft. The structural use of iron actually dates form the latter part of the eighteen-century, although at first it was found in bridges, cotton mills, and other functional buildings, where it was usually combined with brick, stone, or timber, or else used as a substitute for one or more of them. With the use of cast iron and steel the nineteenth- century was eventually to see the spanning of broader widths, the enclosure of more cubic space, and projections toward greater heights than had previously been possible. It was in this context that Hunt began his career as an architect, for it was in Europe that he learned to appreciate and respect the history of art in architecture ? and it was this European architectural history that he wanted to reproduce in America."
