Talent Trends, 2007.
A look at the trends of award-winning roles at the movies and on television.

Abstract
This paper discusses how looking at the recipients for the major film and television awards for 2006 reveals distinct trends. It looks at how history has clarified many of the trends that help determine which actors and which films win awards and how nominated movies are almost always big budget, large scale productions. It also examines how critics and motion picture academies tend to like films about overcoming obstacles: including war, racism, and physical or mental disabilities and how audiences and critics alike are fascinated with unique and exceptional individuals, whether disabled or celebrity.

From the Paper
"Film awards may serve as cultural barometers and as reflections of current consciousness and cultural ideals. Helen Mirren's portrayal of Queen Elizabeth humanizes one of the most emotionally distant public leaders. Audiences want to see their heroes and nemeses humanized. Superhero movies are fun but their impact on human consciousness is minimal. We want to watch strong characters grapple with tough decisions and survive against the odds. Films depicting legal battles against major corporations denote the victory of the little man: a favorite American theme. We want to see intense suffering turned into personal triumph, which is integral to the mythos of our culture."

Talent: Biological and Environmental Components, 2001.
A discussion of the factors that shape talent in an individual and suggestions on how to design a research study/questionnaire that can determine how talent is best developed.

From the Paper
"The scope of talent and ability is great and far ranging, as are the various environments in which they develop. In order to produce a complete study, the different areas of talent and the environments must be looked at: intellectual and academic aptitude, potential in the arts, psychomotor abilities, and spiritual abilities. The overall cultural environment must be taken into account, but special attention should be given to the personal and intimate environment in which the talented individual developed. It is in this personal area that similarities may be discovered and in turn applied to the abilities in the general population."

Talents vs Skills, 2006.
A review of the talents and skills required by leaders and managers, as well as the relationship between the two.

Abstract
This document discusses leadership and management from the perspective of talents and skills. According to the paper, leadership is deemed to be talent based while management is proposed to be skill based. Leadership is said to be visionary and very much a soft skill while management is said to be structured and very much competency based. While leadership and management are generally thought to be mutually exclusive individuals often have some degree of talents versus skills in relation to each.

From the Paper
"Management has been many things to many people but one constant remains consistent among all schools of managerial theory and that is that managers guide functions and processes within an organization. Yet, how individual managers actually execute this guidance is almost completely based on their unique mix of skills and talents or lack there of. The theory behind managerial studies differs only on the approach to or style of that primary guidance that is related to skill or talent and the percentage a manager has of each: the necessity for managing arises whenever work is specialized and undertaken by two or more persons...the specialized work must be coordinated, creating the necessary managerial work...managerial work is to coordinate the work of individuals, groups, and organizations by...four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Sims, 2002, p.9)."

"The Talented Mr. Ripley", 2004.
A review of Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel, "The Talented Mr. Ripley".

Abstract
This paper discusses the book, "The Talented Mr. Ripley," written by Patricia Highsmith. The paper contends that she created the most charismatic psychopath of the 20th century when she wrote this book. First in a series of five novels, "Talented Mr. Ripley" revolves around Tom Ripley, the cold, callous, and amoral protagonist, whose main objective in life is to achieve a higher social status at any cost. The paper depicts the novel as an intricate maze of rationality, insanity, abnormality, and justification.

From the Paper
"Patricia Highsmith created arguably the most 'charismatic psychopath' of the 20th century when she wrote Talented Mr. Ripley in 1955. First in a series of five novels, Talented Mr. Ripley revolved around Tom Ripley, the cold, callous and amoral protagonist whose main objective in life was to achieve a higher social status at any cost. The psychopath however is no ordinary con-man. Ripley is a calculating murderer whose cheats, deceives and kills with premeditated intent. There is nothing accidental about his actions and yet for some odd reason, we don't hate him. The first-person narrative may have a role to play in how readers' emotions are manipulated to side with the killer; still there appear to be some other factors at work. How can we possible not hate a person who impersonates a rich young man after casually killing him and then lives a life of crime to suit his ruthlessly ambitious lifestyle? The answer lies in the careful depiction of the killer and his ability to convince us of the righteousness of his actions despite the fact that they were anything but righteous."

Abstract
This paper discusses capitalism, communism and socialism with the common thread of the individual's role in each society. The writer claims that every person on earth has some special talent, some special ability or ambition, and that by allowing individuals to freely express their individual talents, the entire world reaps the benefits. The writer describes two different meanings of the word "talent" and concludes that talent, in all its meanings, is the foundation of a better world.

From the Paper
"Words, like ideas can have many meanings. Take for example the word ?talent.? Mention the term to almost any modern day American or European, and what comes to mind but an actor or an actress on the silver screen, or perhaps a painter, or an athlete. Talent is skill; aptitude, the ability to do things others cannot. But, to the ancients ?talent? had quite a different meaning. A talent was a unit of weight most often applied to the measurement of precious metals."

Gifted and Talented Education Program, 2002.
A paper which discusses the GATE program which was developed to teach gifted children in California.

Abstract
The paper defines the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program as one which provides challenging curriculum and instruction to gifted and talented students, who are capable of a higher achievement level than that of other students. The paper discusses how GATE is applied to special needs and non-English speaking students. It describes the identification process, the testing procedure and the factors which inhibit these procedures such as language, economical and environmental problems. The paper explores how GATE is taught to children and the advantages and disadvantages of this program.

From the Paper
"The students themselves may have problems with pull out programs as well. Socialization problems in GATE students may arise when they are removed form the classroom setting. When pulling students from the classroom, their peers may feel resentment. The GATE students may lose the ?group? feeling of the classroom, causing possible behavioral and negative learning problems. However, by keeping students in the classroom, GATE students can better understand and accept their learning differences, and can still feel a part of the group. They learn leadership by ?tutoring? those students who may not learn as fast (Webb, 1994)."

Gifted and Talented Children, 2002.
A study on the academic resources for gifted children.

Abstract
This paper examines the education system resources for gifted and talented children. The paper states that these children are often the most neglected population in the classroom, and are expected to independently develop academically. The author writes about the often emotional torment of the gifted child, and the need for training and coaching these children as would be done for a child with athletic talent.

From the Paper
"Gifted and talented, in the past as well as the present, are the ones who have received the least attention as far as education is concerned. The teachers and ones who are responsible for preparing the education system take it for granted that children with exceptional gifts will just develop academically on their own. A gifted child or adult, whether creative, athletic or intelligent, sometimes intimidate authorities who are to educate or supervise them as well as people on their own level which is one of the reasons their resources are the most overlooked, and they lack the skills and knowledge in order for them to achieve their full potential. Diversity Today: Retaining the Best Corporate Talent, 2002.
A look at the increase of minority group women in corporate America, and the discrimination they still face.
2,090 words (approx. 8.4 pages), 7 sources, APA, $ 65.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
The face of the American corporation has changed forever. There are more women and minorities in leadership roles in large corporations and small businesses than ever before, and the trend cannot but continue. This paper examines the serious and deleterious discrimination that minorities and women still face in corporate environments and how these problems are defined by a certain schizophrenic attitude towards their roles. On one hand, companies are pushing to hire more minorities and women in management positions to fit their corporate cultures into a more diversified image, and on the other hand, minorities and women continue to face glass ceilings on advancement, hiring and compensation.

From the Paper
"The first step in attracting quality minorities and women into a company?s management tiers is a quality recruiting program. The program?s focus should be not just on affirmative action quota numbers but on the quality and the enthusiasm and involvement of the managers sought. Julie Bennett paints the picture of the choices a quality minority management candidate has:

"When David Matthews, 37, decided not to follow his employer to another part of the country, he became a highly marketable job candidate. He's an Ivy League-educated African-American with solid experience in a Fortune 500 company. By late last year he was weighing three job offers. Unlike mainstream executives who compare offers on the basis of salary and work environment, Mr. Matthews had another factor to consider: which of the three companies had the most serious commitment to diversity."

British Entrepreneurial Talent, 2005.
An examination of the contribution of the entrepreneur to the slow down in economic growth at the end of the 19th century Britain.

Abstract
This paper looks at how much of England?s success as an industrial nation stemmed from her ability to produce the entrepreneur so it?s perhaps ironic that a perceived shortage of individual enterprise should result in her relative decline. This paper examines the context of entrepreneurship - the need for entrepreneur's, the appeal of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurs in relation to their predecessor's, market trends and contemporary entrepreneurs abroad.

From the Paper
"The slow down in economic growth has been attributed to the actions and policies of the British government. Political decisions in the period 1870-1914 had implications on many of the institutions crucial to the development and capability of entrepreneurial figures. Poor education standards, the continuing of free trade, factory legislation, the patent law and transport routes and methods were all influenced to some extent by government policy, causing the conditions for enterprise to gradually deteriorate. These decreases in efficiency within industrial circles, caused by such policies, were crucial to the performance of the economy after 1870 and help to highlight the effect played by factors other than poor entrepreneurship in the slow down of economic growth."

Gifted Minority Students, 2002.
A discussion about the phenomenon of gifted and talented students among minority groups.
4,151 words (approx. 16.6 pages), 16 sources, MLA, $ 111.95

Abstract
This paper presents a detailed examination of gifted and talented education for minority students. The writer explores the screening process for gifted and talented programs and the various problems that screening process causes when it comes to locating and educating minority students. The writer also explores the societal mindsets and the urban areas that play a part in the overlooking of minority gifted students. The bulk of the exploration is done with a literature review on previous studies, research and decisions regarding the screening and education of minority gifted students.

From the Paper
"Each day across the nation millions of students sit in classrooms and are educated. The classrooms contain a large number of students and the lessons are designed and geared to reach the largest students in each setting. This means that for the most part the lessons are aimed at the average intellect and average abilities student. Within the context of these students there are a few students in each group who are above average in ability and in intellect. These students are often recognized because of their advanced thought process, their advanced abilities and their thinking outside of the box. Students who meet a pre-set criteria in certain areas are labeled as gifted or gifted and talented. Gifted and talented screening varies across the nation but in many cases it includes standardized testing to decide who meets the criteria and who does not. The students who are screened are sometimes chosen by teachers or administrators. Other times they are located because parents have requested a screening. In recent history there has been some focus on whether or not the screening techniques pass over qualified gifted minority students. Through the use of research and studies it appears that the screening process used for the gifted and talented education criteria in American schools negatively affects minority student populations."

Strengths and Weaknesses, 2007.
An essay focusing on the writer's personal talents and weaknesses.
1,448 words (approx. 5.8 pages), 1 source, MLA, $ 48.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
The paper asserts that most people only are aware of their weaknesses since they have been blamed and ridiculed for their weaknesses all their lives. The paper decries the fact that most individuals do not know their own true strengths. The paper explains M. Buckingham's theory why this is so. The writer describes his/her strengths and weaknesses and how he /she will maximize his/her talents in a productive way.

From the Paper
"Buckingham says there are several reasons for this. The first is that people are afraid of their weaknesses. Their perspective is so slanted toward weakness and illness that they know very little about strength and health. Secondly, individuals all have a fear of failure. That is, since failing is not easy to take, some individuals do not want to risk it. However, based on the context of the challenges of strong living, this fear of failure becomes especially difficult to eliminate. Strong living asks a person to be brave, to be perceptive, to listen for performance feedback from the external world, and, more than all, to keep investigating one's strengths despite the many influences pulling him or her away from them."

Found inscribed onto a statue of Djoser, Pharaoh Netjerykhet, Imhotep is identified as a vizier, "Overseer of the Seers," "First for the King," "Director of Public Works in Upper and Lower Egypt," "Keeper of the Seals of Lower Egypt," "Recorder of the Annals," "and "Supervisor of the Great Palace." From the Paper
"W. E. B. DU BOIS' TALENTED TENTH AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEADERSHIP

This research paper summarizes the concept of African-American leadership contained in W. E. B. Du Bois' 1903 article 'The Talented Tenth' and examines its contemporary relevance in the light of the evolution of that leadership during the rest of the 20th century. Du Bois looked to an emerging educated and cultured class of African-American leaders to lift up the black masses from their deteriorating condition and status in America at the turn of the century. Du Bois' faith in education as the solution to racial discrimination and his abiding pride in his race played a seminal role in shaping the leadership of the early civil rights struggle, but they proved to be inadequate and unrealistic bases for mobilizing mass support.

With their civil rights largely secured, current generations ..."
