Abstract
The paper examines the conditions that allow politicians to misrepresent the truth in the media. The paper focuses on American president, George W. Bush and his administration.

From the Paper
"Politicians frequently lie or spread misinformation in order to achieve ends that are not in the public interest. Historically, they have appealed to the worse interests of human nature and the nastier sides of national character to create public sentiments that are conducive to their agendas. Often they appeal to noble national mythologies and universal truths, distorting them to enlist public support for wars of aggression, and oppressive schemes of global political, military, and economic dominance. These statements are typically made publicly in the media, and are commonly reported with little comment, or background investigation."

Black Politicians, 2006.
A discussion regarding the racial, cultural, situational realities and challenges facing black politicians.

Abstract
This paper reviews Toni Morrison's essay describing Bill Clinton as "the first black president". The paper then goes on to discuss how black politicians in general run not only against an actual human opponent or opponents, but also must face the reality of being black in a society that still holds plenty of prejudice against African-Americans, stemming from the days of Southern slavery.

From the Paper
"Morrison has a powerful and relevant point; black (and/or quasi-black) politicians are seldom if ever scions of the predominantly white power elite, e.g., an Al Gore; George W. Bush; Evan Bayh, Lincoln Chafee; or a Kennedy son, daughter or grandchild -at least not in America. So, as Toni Morrison also implies within her 1998 essay, a black politician in America is seldom if ever "anointed" to office in the way that all too many white ones have been historically (think Adams; Taft; Roosevelt Kennedy), and continue to be nowadays. The two most recent examples of successful white politicians whose fathers (after whom they each, moreover, is named, thereby even increasing, even more, voters' connection of this name to that of (most of the time, anyway) a powerful (white) Washington insider whose son (or sometimes daughter) has simply decided that now is the time to enter the "family business"."

Prosecuting Cyber Identity Theft, 2006.
A look at the reasons why it is so difficult to prosecute cyber identity theft.
675 words (approx. 2.7 pages), 2 sources, $ 26.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper discusses the problems that federal, state and local authorities face when prosecuting cyber identity theft, noting that it is not a simple procedure. The paper explains that individuals that steal the identity of others online often use multiple servers and locations to make it almost impossible to trace the person who is responsible for the identity theft. The paper also explains that when identity theft occurs in a country where traditional Internet crime is not considered a prosecutable offense the country where the nation occurred has a difficult time in locating the criminal and extraditing the identity thief for the purposes of prosecution. Finally, the paper notes that many United States prosecutors are hesitant to prosecute these crimes because they generally involve low profile cases that take extensive amounts of time to investigate and prosecute.

From the Paper
"Abstract

The news media has critics both within the profession and external to it regarding the ways in which they view politicians and their attendant political processes and the ways in which they attack these government officials and their decision and policy formulation. While parental teaching and the news media are both influential in formulating attitudes about politicians and politics, the latter proves more relevant than the former given that it provides the bulk of politically-oriented information to children through adults. There are differing conceptions of privacy when considering individual citizens and politicians, with the former being assured more privacy than the latter. As a remedy to this disparity, information about the private lives of politicians that may prove irrelevant to the ..."

The Media and Politicians vs. the People, 2002.
An analysis of the role played by the press in the relationship between the politician and the people.

Abstract
This paper discusses the assumption that the press reports all news of importance to the people, even if it harms the government's interests and the interests of the President. While the press in democratic countries often does represent the interest of the people and act as a "watchdog," the fact is that the government does place direct and indirect controls on what the media publishes through the creation of news. The paper contends that, accordingly, news may be deliberately created, if not invented, in order to distract the media's attention away from stories that are harmful to the government's political image. In such cases, the media have no choice but to turn their attention to the newer and more important item of 'created' news. The paper summarizes that, while the American mainstream media do enjoy much greater freedom of expression than the media in undemocratic countries, the reality is that the mainstream media are often used by the government to promote its own interests and to turn the public's attention away from issues that could place the government in a sensitive political position.

From the Paper
"Countries such as Egypt, on the other hand, follow the authoritarian press model in which the government has control over what is reported and what is not, both through censorship and through the fact that it does own the press houses. Here, both the government and the press claim that the press is free and democratic but the public usually knows that this is not true and usually suspects that there is a great deal of important news that the press is either not reporting or only reporting from the positive side that will benefit the government. Thus, the public usually believes that the United States has a free press while countries like Egypt do not. However, the common assumption that the American press has complete freedom of expression is a popular misconception among citizens of such non democratic countries as Egypt."

Prince of Politicians, 2004.
A comparative analysis of George Bush and Niccolo Machiavelli.

» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper discusses Niccolo Machiavelli's work, "The Prince," and portrays George Bush according to Machiavelli's ideas. The paper contends that George Bush and Niccolo Machiavelli are two very influential political figures that share similar ideals. The paper outlines several of Bush's proposals, explaining them against Machiavelli's theory, which states that, in the conquest for power, the ends justify the means.

From the Paper
"George Bush and Niccolo Machiavelli are two very influential political figures that share some similar ideals. Machiavelli's work was never intended to be applied to republics, or a democratic government. The advice written in The Prince would have likely been applied in the time of absolute government, when countries were ruled by one leader. It is a work which, as Machiavelli himself says that his philosophy is only applied to principalities, or what we call dictatorships in modern times. Elected from the state of Texas, George Bush is a strictly right-winged conservative. When he was governor, Bush showed no clemency for the death row inmates which resulted in the highest number of executions. He severely restricted women's rights in Texas by legislating strict guidelines for abortion, making it very difficult for women to exercise their first amendment right."

Economists and Politicians in Favor of Market Economy, 2001.

1,200 words (approx. 4.8 pages), 5 sources, $ 41.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper discusses the pros and cons of a market economy. The paper claims that in East and Central European societies corruption is widespread, social disciplines and ethics are low, and demand for social justice is weak, therefore social disciplines and ethics should be restored for rolling back de facto briberies and corruption effecting government and semi-privatized institutions. Suggestions are made as to what the government should do to motivate people to play a more active role in business and social life.

From the Paper
"In a standard neoclassical model of the economy, there are markets for everything, now and for the future; everybody knows everything, and they know the same things; and there are no public goods, no externalities, no transaction costs, and no increasing returns. Since under these assumptions the market generates the first best allocation of resources, state intervention, in any form or fashion, is but a transfer of income; in turn, transfers of income, by causing rates of return to diverge from the competitive allocation, reduce incentives and misinform about opportunities. So, in this case, the market wins round 1."

Of Parks, Politicians and People, 2001.
A look at how environmental policy is implemented in national parks.

Abstract
This paper studies the process of policy making within the national park program. Yosemite National Park is used as an example to illustrate environmental policy. It looks at how land has been changed since the influence of the National Park Service. It shows how the national park service?s manipulation of land parallels broader policy-making and deals with the levels of public awareness and action.

From the Paper
"The process of policy making within the national park program follows the ?issue-attention cycle? proposed by Anthony Downs in 1972. This sequence includes problem identification and agenda setting, followed by policy formulation, adoption, implementation and evaluation (Switzer 3-5). The history of policy making for the national parks has repeated this process several times, with a significant reevaluation of the National Park Service?s agenda approximately every decade. The major shifts in policy emphasis from tourism to wildlife biology occurred after World War II, when families increasingly took advantage of the national parks, and continued through the environmental awakening of the 1960s and 70s, at which time much of today?s broader environmental policy was implemented".

Criminal Prosecution of Corporate Management, 2004.
A look at the phenomenon of the criminal prosecution of managers as a weapon against corporate crime.
1,102 words (approx. 4.4 pages), 3 sources, MLA, $ 38.95

Abstract
Using the case of Enron as a backdrop, this paper asks and answers several questions relating to the prosecution of management in corporate crime. The questions involve which laws are broken in the current cases at issue; whether prosecution should include accounting firms and the CFO, how much authority managers have in accounting activities, whether managers should be prosecuted if they had no role in the crime, whether prosecution is becoming a deterrent, and whether corporations are exempt from criminal prosecution?

From the Paper
"Recently, a number of headline-grabbing cases, such as the accounting fraud that existed at the Enron Corporation, have highlighted the role of management at various corporations and in the financial industry, in the commission of corporate crime. The role of accountants and the major corporate accounting firms, as well as the chief financial advisors of corporations and the management personnel whom may or may not be aware of illegal accounting activities, are now under strict scrutiny by the SEC."

Caesar the Politician, 2004.
A comparative analysis of Plutarch's and Suetonius' accounts of the life of Julius Caesar as a politician.
1,305 words (approx. 5.2 pages), 3 sources, APA, $ 44.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
During the Roman Empire, the authors Plutarch and Suetonius began to write in a relatively new genre-the biography. While the Greek-born Plutarch paralleled the lives of Greek and Roman statesmen, Suetonius wrote biographical sketches solely of the Emperors. This paper examines how both authored a biography of the politician and military commander Julius Caesar. It shows that while Plutarch emphasises Caesar's moral character in his politics, Suetonius concentrates more on his personal character and how it made him a successful politician.

From the Paper
"In examining the early political life of Caesar there are some noticeable differences between the two authors. Plutarch concentrates not on Caesar's career, but on his "remarkable gift for public oratory" and how hard he worked to "develop his natural talent" by studying under Apollonius (Plutarch, Caesar, 3). This version is slow-paced, favoring to introduce the reader to Caesar using an anecdote. However, Suetonius' account launches into a description of Caesar's political career itself, describing "when he was Flamen Dialis elect" in the second line (Suetonius, The Deified Julius Caesar, 1). Plutarch favors to attribute Caesar's greatness to his "natural talent," while Suetonius prefers to highlight each individual office and achievement showing a clear progression from Flamen Dialis to dictator."

Terrorist Prosecution, 2007.
This paper examines the legal issues facing the prosecution of terrorists.
1,612 words (approx. 6.4 pages), 3 sources, MLA, $ 52.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
The paper discusses how terrorist attacks have changed the face of prosecution today. The paper shows how as the nation moves more deeply into the 21st century and the age of terrorism, it will need to step carefully through the landmine of civil rights and other protections while still targeting and eradicating terrorist crime. The paper maintains that the people of America should feel secure that when terrorists are caught they will be vigorously dealt with.

From the Paper
"For many years, Americans lived in the security of knowing that they were safe from terrorism within this nation's boundaries. They believed that other countries were afraid to attack and for years they built up a false sense of security that it would never happen here. The events of 9-11 brought that sense of security to screeching halt and today, Americans find themselves in the same predicament of many other countries when it comes to acts of terrorism against their nation.
The prosecution of terrorists is a topic that has taken on heated elements in recent years, because it is no longer a theoretical debate, but an actual one."

"Samuel Adams: America's Revolutionary Politician", 2008.
An analysis and review of John K. Alexander's book, "Samuel Adams: America's Revolutionary Politician."

Abstract
This paper briefly reviews John K. Alexander's book, "Samuel Adams: America's Revolutionary Politician." It illuminates Alexander's thesis and explores the evidence presented by John K. Alexander in his work. The paper suggests that Alexander's work is not objective enough to be an invaluable resource, however it commends the number of sources that are used and suggests that the book is well written.

From the Paper
"There are two other items of considerable interest which must be discussed when examining Alexander's work: his use of resources and his ability to contextualize the characters he discusses. To begin with the former, a quick glance at the selected bibliography found at the back of the book indicates an impressive mix of primary and secondary resources. In that regard, Alexander has made a concerted effort to review as much of the material available on the life and times of Samuel Adams, as possible - albeit the way in which this material has been used is an open question. Proceeding further, Alexander has done a commendable job of placing Adams and other principals within the proper historical context; to wit, whenever quoting eighteenth century correspondence, every effort is undertaken to adhere to the grammatical and spelling conventions of Adams' time, and Alexander also sees to it that those contemporaries of Adams have "ample opportunity to speak for themselves" (xi). In the end, this sort of reliance upon primary correspondence gives the book an authenticity it might not have otherwise."
