Abstract
This paper provides a personal statement regarding the desire to undertake a Master's degree at Springfield College. The writer discusses his desire to help others and how this has led him to pursue further education that would help him to further his goals. It discusses the benefits of undertaking his Master's at Springfield College which has shown itself to be committed to the humanities.

From the Paper
"It may seem that I could meet my personal, educational, and professional goals through any Masters at any university. However, I believe that Springfield College would provide me with opportunities that are unavailable at other institutions. I am extremely impressed with Springfield's commitment to the service of humanity, and believe that I will find myself surrounded by others like me, who have an innate need to help other people. I feel that the graduate programs of many other schools emphasize academia and research, rather than the application of existing knowledge to better humankind. I am not interested in that aspect of my field, but, instead, want to apply psychology to help people. I believe that Springfield's emphasis on practical experience, including volunteer work, will provide me with the opportunity to create a practical and helpful foundation in my field. I am also impressed with the credentials of Springfield's faculty, and I believe that, under them, I will be able to meet influential and helpful people in my field. Hopefully, my educational experience will help me meet the contacts that I will need to really help people, and perhaps even begin the pilot educational and counseling program, which I described in my professional goals. Finally, I am impressed that all of Springfield's Master's programs, regardless of discipline, focus on the helping professions. I feel as if I will be in the right place to learn skills from other disciplines, if my education, laboratory, and volunteer experience reveal a gap in my knowledge."

Abstract
This paper presents the personal statement of a person pursuing studies in mental health and counseling. The paper relates that, in order to pay for these studies, the applicant worked with an adoption agency, and being of Chinese origin felt personally rewarded by assisting in the placement of Chinese children and specifically that of a little Chinese girl. The paper concludes with a discussion about the writer's intentions of pursuing a health and counseling career, which would be of value in assisting the underprivileged, as demonstrated by the help given to the adopted Chinese girl.

From the Paper
"I was put in charge of the Chinese adoption program because I am originally from China; my employers felt this background, especially culturally and linguistically, was invaluable to meet their ends. I found that I was able to help mediate issues that naturally arose between adopted children and their new families in this country. Especially when it came to older children, the importance of acting as a bridge between them and their new families was a crucial aspect of my work."

Dental School Personal Statement, 2008.
A personal statement regarding the writer's chosen career path of dentistry.

» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper provides a personal description of the events that led the writer to choose a career in dentistry. It describes the writer's first exposure to dentistry and discusses the impression that it made on him. The paper also describes the writer's previous work experience and how it was very informative and has greatly reinforced his heightened enthusiasm for the dental profession.

From the Paper
"My initial exposure to taking dentistry as a career path was purely accidental. About four years ago, I had to accompany my mother to the dentist because she was still unable to speak a single word of English during that time. I myself was not that fluent at that time since it has only been a few months since I arrived in the US. The doctor informed me that mother's teeth needed to be crowned, but the procedure was not covered by her medical plan. The dentist also told me that extraction was the only alternative procedure covered under her plan. So I gave the dentist permission to perform the extraction procedure, not knowing exactly what extraction really meant. When we got home, my mother got upset and started to cry when she realized that her teeth have been extracted. I love my mother very much and seeing her cry broke my heart. I wanted to correct my mistake so I went back to the dentist, but he informed me that new teeth implant would cost $7,000.00. He referred me to the financial manager after I asked for the possibility of paying on installment basis. Unfortunately, the financial manager ignored me completely. I cannot help but blame myself for making such a stupid mistake and the feeling of helplessness pains me severely. It was then that I decided to become a dentist, not only to give my mother her teeth back but also to help other people like me."

Abstract
This paper presents a personal statement and admission essay to the Medical School of the University of Toronto. It describes the writer's choice to pursue a career in medicine and how it was shaped by a combination of family history, his lifelong fascination with human biology, and his knowledge of how profoundly emotionally rewarding it can be for medical practitioners to make a positive difference in the lives of their patients. The paper discusses each of these aspects in detail.

From the Paper
"Finally, it must be said that my decision to apply to study medicine at the University of Toronto has been influenced by the renown and reputation of its faculty, and its success in producing medical practitioners of the highest calibre. My determination to meet the high standards of your institution led me to retake my MCAT so that I was satisfied with every aspect of my performance, and feel that it accurately reflects my knowledge and skill set. I also believe that my lifelong interest in human biology and physiology, and the knowledge gained as a consequence of these years of interest and study, also render me a strong candidate for medical studies at your institution. To all of these factors must also be added the invaluable life experience and insights into the challenges and emotional rewards of medical practice that I have acquired through learning from my grandfather's and my father's examples. Their dedication and commitment to their patients and their work have inspired me to continue their legacy of care through pursuing my own career in medicine."

Abstract
This paper describes the author's successful experiences working for NGOs in Iran as well as problems with her studies at the University of Toronto. Both of these situations taught her that no matter what, life goes on. The author feels that she is motivated, is a hard worker and is an independent individual, which are the right qualifications to succeed at the distant learning program for a Bachelor's program of Political Sciences and International Relations offered by the London School of Economics External Studies.

From the Paper
"In May of 2006, I returned home to Iran with one goal in mind--I wanted to make this summer more memorable than any other. Thinking of working in my own field of study seemed like a great idea because the United Nations was the first institution that came into my mind, due to the fact that since I first learned about this international organization, I fantasized about working there. Entering such a place to work, especially at such a young age, was difficult, but thanks to my determination, I managed to secure a volunteer job at the UN World Food Program."

Abstract
This paper explains why the applicant, originally a new immigrant is worthy of a college place. It discusses how his "jack-in-a-box' approach to language acquisition and body building has made him a more flexible and open communicator.

From the Paper
"Going further, my approach to learning a new language, while certainly unconventional in many respects, was nonetheless richly rewarding not only for the way in which it helped me digest the English written word but for the many ways in which it helped me gain a secure grasp of spoken English. In short, by immersing myself in the rapid-fire back-and-forth of the workplace, I learned the conversational "short-hand" that is so vital to learning how to interact with native-born English speakers. Each and every time that I communicated with an impatient customer or with an impatient supervisor, I came a little bit closer to understanding the linguistic and even facial/physical subtleties that allow a newcomer to America to gain mastery of the spoken word. Abstract
This paper presents a personal life plan and management statement. The paper discusses the writer's academic and professional strengths and how these strengths have assisted him in his chosen career path in finance. The writer looks at the moral implications of aspiring to financial success in his chosen field and whether this can be reconciled with his aspirations.

From the Paper
"Frankly, I do hope to enjoy the thrill of applying my talents and knowledge to become successful in my chosen field and even to enjoy some of the (admittedly) superficial thrills and benefits it may provide. But Einstein's writings have helped me reconcile those goals with more meaningful aspects of professional success. Ultimately, I hope to enjoy the intellectual thrill of applying my talents to the complex analyses for which I have been trained knowing that the same efforts will also enable me to benefit society as much as (or even more than) any other professional goal that motivates professional achievement in all of us."

Abstract
This paper presents a personal scholarship statement and application essay for a student applying for a scholarship to study to be a dental hygienist. She touches on why she finds dental work fulfilling and describes some of her characteristics that she feels will make her successful in her choice of career.

From the Paper
"In my four years at the dental office, I have seen countless patients come in with severe dental and oral health problems that caused them physical discomfort, difficulty eating, and embarrassment about the appearance of their teeth. One man had tremendous difficulty eating, because of the damage from a lifelong habit of chewing tobacco. The tobacco had caused multiple cancerous lesions and resulted in the loss of some of his jawbone. After extensive treatment with several different specialists, including dentists, oral surgeons, and maxillofacial specialists, his ability to speak and to enjoy his food was restored to a level where he could continue a normal life after surviving cancer surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy."

Personal Counseling Mission Statement
An Evaluation of the Effect of the Mission Statement on my Counseling Theory
Comparison of Contemporary Research on Psychoanalysis and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Review of Contemporary Research on Psychoanalysis
Review of Contemporary Research on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Conclusion

From the Paper
"Over the semester, my own personal counseling style has been affected by many of the theories presented in Seligman's text. One of the theories presented that has assisted in my development style is Freud's theory of psychoanalysis, which is based on the conflicts that Freud believed were at the core of human existence. Freud believed that these conflicts emerged from attempts to reconcile our biological selves with our social selves. Like Freud, I also believe that there is an internal battle occurring between an individual's mental awareness with their physical awareness. Aspects of these conflicts are unconscious and influence our behavior without our awareness (Strisik & Strisik, 2005). Psychodynamic therapies work to make the unconscious conscious so that we can have greater insight into our needs and behavior and therefore more control over how we allow these conflicts to affect us (Strisik & Strisik, 2005). However, my style is not completely a "psychodynamic therapy," but can be described as having its' roots in psychoanalysis. My style can best be described as finding a path to resolve internal conflicts so that the individual's mind can mature and self-actualize."

Personal Values, 2005.
Examines personal values in business and personal life.

Abstract
This paper discusses the personal values of the individual in relation to business and personal life. It further discusses how the cultural values of the corporation and the beliefs or ethics of the individual are incorporated into the employee's decision making. The paper also discusses how cultural values belong to the group, and personal ethics are individual. These two concepts must match in order to create an effective personal value statement.

From the Paper
"In developing a personal values statement for personal and professional life, it is important to consider the effect of organizational, cultural, and personal values on the individual. Bond, Boonstra, Cheosakul, Fu, Higashide, Howell, Kennedy, Koopman, Lacassagne, Pasa, Peng, Prieto, Strinivas, Tata, and Yukl (2004) contend that values are "long lasting" (p. 284). These authors further state that there is a significant difference between the beliefs of an individual, and the values of a group or organization (Bond et al., 2004, p. 284). The theory of "beliefs" suggest that a personal viewpoint is being evaluated, while values suggest that a large number of people are sharing in one set of behaviors that will be best suited to the organization."

Personal Effectiveness: Literature Review, 2008.

Abstract
This paper analyzes different aspects of personal effectiveness as they relate to the human resources segment of successful business organizations. The paper explains that a company's business strategy is reflected in the organization's actions in the marketplace and in the statements of senior managers about the company's current business approaches, future plans, and efforts to strengthen its competitiveness and performance. The paper explains further that, as a result, the individual personal effectiveness found at all employee levels has been studied in relation to the rise of successful business organizations. The paper points out that such studies have enabled researchers to gather information that appears to play a crucial role in determining the long- term success or ultimate failure of such organizations. The paper also reviews several theories involving methods of increasing the personal effectiveness in all types of organizations that have emerged as a significant element of competitive advantage for both employees and management. The paper concludes that these theories have created a wide variety of available personal effectiveness training and strengthening materials.

Outline:
Introduction
Personal Effectiveness Theories
Personal Effectiveness Materials
Conclusion

From the Paper
"A review of the literature indicates that different theories regarding what constitutes both personal effectiveness and methods of attaining it have existed for many decades. The definition of personal effectiveness varies from organization to individual; however, it can be summarized as the overall effectiveness presented by people in their employment tasks. Personal effectiveness in human resources relates to the behavior of individuals; since the majority of behavior is sense motivated, individuals are greatly influenced by their environment. The best known theory of motivation in this area is Maslow's theory of human motivation, which centers on the theory of "physiological needs (Maslow, 1943). As related to the theory of human motivation all people have a need or desire for a stable, formally based, high evaluation of themselves, for self respect, self esteem, and respect from others (Maslow, 1943)."
