Abstract
The paper explores how family health nursing is an approach to nursing that recognizes the importance of the family for the patient. The paper discusses how the idea of the nuclear family has changed, with many new forms of families common today, such as single-parent, step and blended families. The paper explains that a family health nurse works with the family of the patient as much as the actual patient. The nurse is often the link between medical specialists and the patient's family and family members can become the health decision makers when the patient is not capable of making decisions for him/herself.

From the Paper
"Family health nursing is an approach to nursing that recognizes the significance of the family for the patient. A family health nurse works with the family of the patient as much as the actual patient. They typically work with the patient and their family in the patient's home. They may provide advice to family members and show them how to care for the patient. This can include medical tasks such as how to change a patient's dressings or how to administer their medication. It can also include other tasks such as how to provide a positive environment for the patient and how to identify signs that the patient is anxious or depressed. They may also recognize family members that are not coping and provide support and guidance. Finally, they can also identify issues within the family and recommend action to be taken, such as by referring family members to appropriate social services."

Abstract
This paper relates that family health nursing is defined as a discipline that treats the family as a client thereby not limiting the definition of a patient to the patient's body alone. The author points out that, in the last forty years, the American family has experienced many changes in the concept of the nuclear family such as increases in the numbers of single parents, women working outside the home, people marrying later and elderly cared for within the home. The paper stresses that family nursing is not merely treating the sickness but also treating the family environment so it can minimize sickness and maximize health promotion.

Table of Contents:
Why is the Family an Important Focus for Nurses?
How has the Family Changed?
What Constitutes a Family Today?
What is the Definition of Family Health Nursing?

From the Paper
"When providing treatment, a family nurse must understand why, for example, a single mother may find it difficult to alter her diabetic child's unsupervised snacking habits because of the child's resistance, or because the mother must work long hours to support the family. Both members of the family, and the familial pattern of daily life, fall under the auspices of family nursing care. At the end of a patient's life, a family nurse can help the family restructure their family routine to accommodate the needs of an ailing parent."

Abstract
This paper evaluates the current field of family health nursing by answering a series of basic and straightforward questions about that field. These questions include the nature of the family unit, the importance of the family for nurses, and methods for application of family health nursing theories. Throughout this paper, a rough definition of family health nursing according to the author's own understanding are shown.

From the Paper
"The changing structure of the basic family unit will have a certain impact on family health and healthcare. Family health nursing takes this into account and provides for a holistic approach to healthcare that incorporates the working of the family into health assessments (Anderson, 2000). In doing so, the nurse will take into account the dynamics of the family in order to assess, implement and evaluate care."

Abstract
This paper looks at the Marilyn M. Friedman nursing theory and her life. The writer of this paper uses Friedman?s own book to outline the theoretical approaches Friedman contributes to the family nursing practice field. In addition the reader is treated to a short biography of Friedman?s life and works.

From the Paper
"We have all seen the depiction of nurses long ago. They wore their little white caps and they changed bedpans, comforted families and opened the drapes in hospital rooms letting the light in. Beyond that we were not really aware of their presence other than at injection time. Fast-forward to today and nurses have changed tremendously. Today?s nurse is extremely well educated, involved in patient care and interacts with the medical staff, social programs and the families of the patient on a regular basis. The field of nursing has grown and changed to the point it is now divided into specialty types much like the field of doctors has done. Family practice nursing is a specialty that often dovetails with family practice or general practice physician work."

Abstract
This paper is a family nursing case study which uses the Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM) in order to analyze a family's structure, family member relations and dynamics and functioning. Using this assessment model, the paper pinpoints various potential problems that may come about later which might not be addressed by other methods of assessment. The paper then discusses solutions to the present dilemma and includes a critical analysis of the student's participation in the assessment process.

From the Paper
"The family under study consists of a mother age 33, a father age 36, son age 10 and daughter age 7. This family has no extended family support as the mother's parents are both deceased and the father's mother is too ill to assist in raising their children or helping out with household duties. The family does not provide direct care for her; the father's sister undertakes this responsibility. Siblings on both sides are not close and do not provide much assistance. As previously mentioned, the son is the eldest. He has been diagnosed with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD/dyspraxia), a learning disorder that causes a delay in language comprehension, speech and poor physical co-ordination."

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison and contrast between two articles involving family theory. It examines how family theory is used in a variety of different situations. Family theory centers on the health of a family. The paper shows that it is not to be confused with the mental and emotional systems at play within the family structure as the theory is not a psychological one but a medical view.

From the Paper
"Family theory centers on the health of a family. It is not to be confused with the mental and emotional systems at play within the family structure as the theory is not a psychological one, but a medical view. Family theory approaches healthcare and health issues within the family structure - with the family playing a unique and dynamic role in the health of its members. The overall health system of a family can be greatly affected by a single member's experiences with health-related problems and, as such, family theory seeks to resolve the problem of defining the nature of family in its highly complex interrelations. It is the purpose of this paper to look at two different research studies that employ family theory in differing ways."

Abstract
This paper discusses the potential threat of bioterrorism and how it could be best addressed in the State of Virginia by a family nurse practitioner. It expands on measures which include participating as a volunteer member of the Virginia Medical Emergency Corp and being active in syndromic surveillance models being utilized throughout the United States.

From the Paper
"The Commonwealth of Virginia is unique in its heritage, unique in its history and unique in its people and culture. As such, it represents a unique set of challenges relative to threats of bioterrorism. Virginia's combination of urban, suburban and rural communities combined with its proximity to the capital of the United States make Virginia both a high risk state for bioterrorism and a difficult state to coordinate preventative measures or to effect emergency action as may be necessary. As a Family Nurse Practitioner in Virginia, I believe there are significant contributions that I can make. My proposed role relative to bioterrorism as an Advanced Practice Family Nurse Practitioner are twofold and both focus on the "back to basics" indicators between state and local areas; working as a volunteer at the state level while concentrating on the local area. I first believe I have the responsibility to be a volunteer medical ..."

Abstract
This paper shall conduct a literature review of nurses' views concerning the presence of family members during resuscitation efforts. This is an area of concern for the medical community but as of this time there has been very little in the way of research conducted on this topic. The perceptions of nurses are therefore extracted from a multitude of sources with the intention of clearly demonstrating how nurses in the present- day health care system perceive the presence of family members during resuscitation efforts

Abstract
The paper, in describing the family nurse practitioner (FNP), discusses the FNP's work situation, duties, salaries and qualifications required. The paper further highlights the fact that nurses often substitute for doctors in specific situations. The paper continues by presenting it's research on the duties, support and contributions that nurses provide.

Outline:
Introduction
Conceptionalization of Role/Theoretical Support for Family Nurse Practitioner
How Concepts and Theory Come Together to Create a Framework for the FNP
Research Related to the Role of the FNP
Further Research is Needed
Closing Paragraph

From the Paper
"Because M.D.s are lacking in rural areas, many FNPs are filling in and serving as primary healthcare providers. The Family Nurse Practitioner began in 1965 at the University of Colorado, conceived of by Loretta Ford, PhD (a nurse educator) and Dr. Henry Silver. The idea of a nurse to fill in for the anticipated shortage of doctors in rural areas created the need for a nurse practitioner program in the nursing school. The nurses were educated for a general and complete program of medical care for rural families. During the 1970s the programs, now offered at many nursing schools, began to include continuing education so that those who wished could work toward a Nurse Practitioner (NP) certificate. Today NPs have a master's degree if they are to enter nursing programs to work toward a NP certificate. After certification, the state issues a license to practice to qualifying FNPs, and each state still has its own criteria for qualifications. Each FNP applies for national certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). "

Abstract
This paper describes family-centered care nursing programs. The author points out empirical research. The paper relates the historic involvement of the family as an integral part of the nursing practice.

From the Paper
The purpose of this research report is to identify family centered care practice and principles with special emphasis upon nursing interventions in the surgical perioperative care setting in a large urban medical surgical unit. According to Wright and Leahey, a significant part of nursing history is that the involvement of families has always been integrally to nursing practice; but, in recent years, nursing has begun to focus upon identifying via empirically grounded research the basic systems that should be used in caring ..."

Abstract
This paper looks at nursing and obstetrical nursing and investigates what agencies police and design the curricula for these fields. The State Boards of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission are examined and the policies and standards that they set are discussed as well as the required curriculum content and development they oversee. Their impact upon curriculum development and revision is also reviewed.

From the Paper
"In the arena of nursing, there are so many specialties, so many fields, so many types of nurses, that there must be governing and regulatory bodies. Without such organizations that regulate and control nursing and nursing education programs, there would not be a singular and uniform set of expectations for this nation's nursing professionals. The two organizations that will be discussed in regard to how they influence the regulation of nursing, and more specifically how they could influence obstetrical nursing, are the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The first of the two governing agencies that this paper will discuss and investigate is the NCSBN."

Abstract
This paper considers the reasons for using non-nursing personnel to perform nursing tasks and then takes a look at the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. The paper also discusses the outlook for using non-nursing personnel in the nursing profession as well as the decline in qualified nurses in the labor pool.

From the Paper
"Much has been written about the nursing shortage that plagues physicians, hospitals and nursing homes in the United States. At the same time that there are fewer qualified nurses available in the work force a number of states and municipalities have passed regulations regarding the nurse-to-patient ratio that is making the situation even more acute. As a result, healthcare providers have been forced to be innovative in the way that they attract nurses to their institutions and recruiting efforts..."

Registered Nurse vs. Nurse Practitioner, 2008.
A research paper exploring the process of transferring from a status of registered nurse to nurse practitioner.
2,825 words (approx. 11.3 pages), 10 sources, APA, $ 84.95

Abstract
The paper defines and describes the duties, obligations and educational abilities of both a registered nurse and nurse practitioner in order to determine the motivations of nurses to transfer positions. The paper provides a literature review and concludes that a more in-depth analysis is necessary to truly assess a nurse's motivation for expressing interest in transferring to the role of nurse practitioner. The paper also shows the need for more studies on whether such a transfer will bring greater job satisfaction and motivation than if the nurse were to remain as a registered nurse.

Outline:
Introduction
Literature Review
Strengths & Weaknesses of the Concept
Discussions & Summary Conclusions

From the Paper
"At present, there is a national crisis within the nursing industry. More and more, people are interested in becoming nurses. Nurses work in many capacities in clinics, community centers, hospitals and in private practice. However for some, there is no clear distinction between an R.N. and a Nurse Practitioner. Further, there is little data exploring the mechanisms through which a nurse may decide to pursue an advancing career, and what support if any he or she may receive in doing so. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the roles of these two positions, and assess which is most needed given the status of the nursing and healthcare industry in the United States today."
