Abstract This paper explains that Henry Adams's "The Education of Henry Adams" is subtitled as a biography, but doesn't actually tell the story of Henry Adams life; instead, it looks at how he developed his mental ideas and opinions based on historical, political, and philosophical contemplation of the things that were going on during his time. The author points out that, in the "The Education of Henry Adams," Adams places a great deal of criticism on himself and the entire world, which can be very satiric and biting, but there is warmth and humor contained within the book. The paper relates that one small downside to the book is that Adams appears to generalize everything to the point that it often appears he is lumping too many individuals together and does not allow various individual opinions to actually come through.

Abstract There have long been disparities among Bible scholars concerning the relative accuracy of the Bible's creation story. The source of disagreement appears to be the fact that the creation story itself contains within it a small discrepancy; the creation myth presented in the Bible is actually told twice and is not necessarily in agreement with itself. This paper highlights the main distinctions between the Bible's creation myths, i.e., the order of creation, Eve begotten from Adam's rib or from the earth, the mythic qualities of both versions as opposed to their "truthful" qualities, etc. Also the idea that there were two authors for the different stories is suggested and explored.

The heaven and earth have already been created; God makes man from the earth, breathes life into him, and creates animals and then woman. A second difference between the two creation stories is in the reference to God himself. Version one simply refers to god as "God" while the second creation story uses the more endearing name "Lord God." This use of the sacred name "Lord God" suggests a more man-centered text and is often speculated by biblical scholars to imply that the two creation stories of Genesis have different authors."

The author stresses that Hobbes says that self-preservation is pre-eminent in the nature of man and anything done to keep that motive is humanistic and should be done without recourse. The paper explains that, to Aristotle, (1) mankind is climbing a ladder to reach an end goal of happiness; (2) climbing the steps of the ladder is done in a way that is good for the rest of the community; however, (3) self-sufficiency is the highest virtue of all.

Abstract This paper discusses how the Hebrew Scriptures were produced from the traditions of the ancient Israeli people, and that these scriptures fused moral, along with political injunctions as to how the state should create a just as well as a holy society, and defined the responsibilities of the leaders in relation to the people, as well as defined the citizen's relationship to the state. The paper goes on to say that Christianity, which is derived from Judaism, was spawned during a different political and historical point in Israeli history. The paper reviews how both the theologians St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, when examining the responsibilities of the state, the ruler and the ruled in the Christian world, would also offer two different portraits of this judicial relationship, in attempting to reconcile scriptural prescriptions about correct behavior.
From the Paper "However, in the Gospel According to St. Matthew, Jesus says: "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" (Matthew 22:21) In other words, the purpose of religion is not to concern itself with the worldly affairs of the here and now, but the world to come. Jesus frequently implies that there is a dichotomy between the morals and values of the ruling state and the true values of a very different world above. The second beatitude of the "Sermon on the Mount" is one of Jesus' most famous: "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:4) The meek that do not rule on earth will rule later on, and the rules that govern the world will be forever altered after the Day of Judgment. St. Paul reinforces this flesh and spirit divide in his Epistle to the Galatians: "For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." (Galatians 5:14) In other words, the true law of the land is spiritual, not the formally codified laws pertaining to ruling a state found in the Hebrew Bible. This is why Paul preaches against Christians observing the rules that Jews were bound by, such as circumcision. Christ had supplanted such old, physical laws. The laws of the world were of less concern than the inner laws of one's spiritual life."

Instead, it looks at how he developed his mental ideas and opinions and at the conclusions that he reached based on historical, political, and philosophical contemplation of the things that were going on during his time. Because of this, there are some of the more controversial issues of his life that have been left out. For example, he was married to a photographer named Clover for quite some time until she eventually killed herself. This is left out of the book in light of looking at more of the philosophical implications of the country at that time. Henry Adams also wrote the "History of the United States" and even though the writing was extremely large it has been omitted from this particular book. There are, however, some references in various parts of the text to some of the latter work. "
