Abstract
This paper examines how ?The Jilting of Granny Weatherall? is a poignant story describing Ellen Weatherall, the aging granny, as she travels through her twilight years. Granny Weatherall only believed that she would live to be sixty because she felt that her life was over; instead, to her surprise, she lived to be eighty. In particular, it looks at how the story closely parallels the life of Jesus Christ.

From the Paper
"Granny?s tragedy in her life was, like all of her life, in the past. Granny was jilted at the altar by George, and this has caused her much unforgotten pain during her whole life. ?Granny?s heart was broken once and for all?. Mooney states that ?Granny Weatherall feels not the whole of her life within her, but only its greatest pain. It is her lost lover whom she sees most clearly, and the awful hurt he caused her which she feels so deeply.? (49) This thought closely parallels Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice allowed everyone to be free from sin. Christians cause Him great sadness through sin filled lives, but Jesus is always able to forgive."

Abstract
This paper discusses Katherine Anne Porter's 1930 short story, "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall". The paper examines the character of the story's protagonist, Granny Weatherall. The paper presents the story as largely an extended stream-of-consciousness narrative that depicts the various thoughts and perceptions that flicker through the dying granny's mind, in a way that gives insight into the woman's character and her development from young girl, to wife, to old and respected matron.

From the Paper
"Granny Weatherall's character becomes evident in the first line she speaks over the story's introduction. "Get along now. Take your schoolbooks and go. There's nothing wrong with me." She snaps at the attending, ultimately ineffectual Doctor Harry, as well as her daughter Cornelia. Granny uses her eighty years as a defense for her caustic tone-she should know when she needs a doctor she implies, because she has suffered more in her life than both of these two individual's existences combined. Granny's characteristic frugality and independence are reinforced when she adds, "I pay my own bills, and I don't throw my money away on nonsense!" "

There is Never Enough Time, 2007.

Abstract
In this article, the writer introduces, discusses and analyzes the short story "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" by Katherine Anne Porter. Specifically, the writer discusses the theme of time in the story. The writer explains that this short story follows the last hours of Granny Weatherall, an eighty-year-old woman who lives with her daughter and is about to die. The writer notes that the story condenses the pain and triumph of her life into a few hours, and so it condenses all her time alive into just a tiny speck that seems to mean very little. The writer concludes that everyone, no matter how old they are, needs more time, and this short story's theme demonstrates that while all anyone really has in life is time, it is never enough in the end.

From the Paper
"This indicates how people really think about life - there will always be more time tomorrow. Granny's life has been a disappointment to her in many ways, and now, as she lies dying, she still wants to do something more, something that will matter and keep her busy. She has kept herself busy to pass the time and to keep from thinking about memories she does not want to remember. She has had years to dispose of those letters, and yet she has put it off until it is too late. This shows the reader that time is fleeting and they should not put off the things they hope to accomplish in life, because it can be over in a second."
"Granny's thoughts also show something else that is common with the passage of time. She wants to go back and live her life again, and live it differently."

Faulkner's and Porter's Female Characters, 2006.
A comparison of the main characters in William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" and Katherine Anne Porter's "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall".

Abstract
This paper compares the characters and lives of Emily Grierson, from William Faulkner's novel "A Rose for Emily", and Granny Weatherall ,from Katherine Anne Porter's novel "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall". The paper discusses the similar character traits the characters share and explains how both were affected by a similar, life-changing event in their youths that became the tragedy of their lives . The paper also contrasts how each character chose to deal with that tragedy, pointing out that Emily allowed her past to turn her into a depraved and perverse character, while Granny chose not to let her past dictate her life and instead built a life of warmth, dignity and compassion and understood that life was what you made of it, for better or for worse.

From the Paper
"The two characters presented for comparison bare likeness to each other in several respects. Each are presented as strong-willed and defiant. They both were raised during an era where existed a strict southern code of manners and appearance. Unfortunately, this code is based on appearance rather than truth. Southern society placed great emphasis on a woman's conduct and each of the women acted according to this unwritten code. The secrets that they concealed and the demeanors they chose to display to society differ from reality. Emily Grierson's fa?ade of gentleness conceals her iron-willed strength capable of even murderous acts. Granny Weatherall is perceived as an ailing lady of forgotten memory and time. Both ladies were significantly affected by events in youth that became the tragedy of their lives. They were both jilted by their young loves. The difference between Emily and Granny lies in the effect this betrayal had upon the remainder of their existence."

In addition they are an alternative to warehousing older generation Americans who cannot afford to live independently.

From the Paper

California Court of Appeal struck down just such an attempt in Santa Monica, which had an ordinance on the books that restricted, who can live in second units in single family residential zones. The court found that the ordinance it violated both privacy and equal protection rights. The ordinance restricted occupancy to dependents and caretakers. It was approved by the City Council at the urging of residents, in spite of legal warnings from attorneys as well as City staff."

?Macbeth? and ?Madea?, 2006.
A comparative analysis of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and Euripides' "Medea".
2,645 words (approx. 10.6 pages), 0 sources, $ 79.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This paper examines how Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and Euripides' "Medea" are both tragic plays in the classical sense. It looks at how both Medea and Macbeth lust for the unattainable and how that lust destroys them. It cannot be said which character is a truly tragic figure, because both fit the description. It contends that if either character deserves more sympathy it is Madea, the jilted wife, not Macbeth the King killer since Macbeth's lust for power and his willingness to please his wife leads to his downfall.

From the Paper
"Macbeth is by far one of the greatest of Shakespeare's tragedies. Its images and representations of ambition, guilt and the degradation of being make him a truly tragic character. Macbeth starts out as a pretty-cool guy - he's a Scottish general and a gentleman, but has always wished to be more. It is not until after Duncan's death, that Macbeth truly begins to deteriorate into a faithless and remorseless man. He tells one lie to cover up another, having to commit one murder to cover up the other, until he looks back, and cannot even remember the first little step he took over the line. Only MacDuff, a faithful servant and soldier of Duncan and Malcom, can bring him down, even though the witches have rightfully prophesied that "no man of woman born" could possibly bring down Macbeth's reign of terror."
