Abstract
In the United States, people tend to think of race as the primary factor in discordant human relations. In particular, the divide between black and white Americans is seen as a central one, with historical antecedent and difficult prospects for the future. In other regions of the world, however, ethnicity, religion, and tribal background are equally divisive factors.

Introduction:
In the United States, people tend to think of race as the primary factor in discordant human relations. In particular, the divide between black and white Americans is seen as a central one, with historical antecedent and difficult prospects for the future. In other regions of the world, however, ethnicity, religion, and tribal background are equally divisive factors.

In thinking about Japan and Korea, and the development of the comfort woman concept, ethnicity is an important factor. Although gender is the most salient factor, ethnicity also probably plays a role in the horrific nature of the Japanese enslavement of the Korean women."

Cultural Comparison of Korean and Japanese Buddhism, 2002.

Abstract
The writer argues that there are very distinct similarities and differences in the histories, philosophies and beliefs that shape Korean and Japanese Buddhism, both in their homelands and in the United States. The paper compares and contrasts issues such as dress, temples, daily schedule of prayers and doctrine. Finally, the writer concludes that both Korean and Japanese Buddhism are part of the collective human experience, and as such each may be viewed historically, culturally and even doctrinally.

From the Paper
"It became clear that Korean Buddhists rely very heavily on the interaction of their ancestors as motivating phenomena. The weight of the burden passed on by every ancestor accumulates, resulting in an increasingly heavy karmic load for each subsequent descendant. In traditional, or Japanese and Chinese, Buddhism, the burden follows the individual (or in a worst case scenario, one of great sin or wrongdoing, follows the immediate family). However, in Korean Buddhism the weight of all things left unresolved follows all of the members of the family until it is settles. This holistic approach is so incredibly thorough that Korean Buddhists alive today are still carrying the unfinished cosmic burden of ancestors from a thousand years ago. (Buswell, 131-3)"

Abstract
The paper is a discussion and analysis of the two novels "Quiet Odyssey: A Pioneer Korean Woman in America" by Mary Paik Lee and "Coming of Age in Mississippi," by Anne Moody. Specifically, the paper compares and contrasts the hardships that Mary and Anne had to overcome. The paper looks at how their struggles were similar and different. These two women at first seem quite divergent from each other in experience and culture, but after reading these two books, it is clear these women have much in common, from their experience of prejudice and hate, to their ability to create meaningful lives for themselves while sharing their experiences with others.

From the Paper
"At first glance, Asian Mary Paik Lee and Black Anne Moody could not be more different. One was an Asian immigrant who came to the country in 1905; and the other was a poor black living in the South at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Certainly, these two very different women, from far dissimilar backgrounds and generations, could have nothing in common. Yet, as the reader delves into their stories, they discover these two women have far more in common that first envisioned."

Korean and Japanese Female Students, 2004.
Examination of cultural differences and their affect on women?s roles for Korean and Japanese female students
2,685 words (approx. 10.7 pages), 10 sources, MLA, $ 80.95
» Click here to show/hide summary

Abstract
This study examines the extent to which females' roles are influenced by their cultural background. It focuses on close examination of how Korean and Japanese cultural influences affect a woman?s career aspirations and expectations for success in society. The first section consists of an observational review of the literature available regarding female roles in Japan and Korea, and an analysis of the two cultures is provided. The second half of the study entails a field study of American students with Korean and Japanese cultural backgrounds in an attempt to ascertain to what extent female student roles are influenced by the models of their parents, the majority of whom were raised in Japan or Korea. First-generation students/families are examined to assess the most accurate information.

From the Paper
"In a study conducted by Song (2001) women?s career aspirations were examined among 482 Korean college women in South Korea. The study showed that a formal education perpetuating gender inequality exists among many of the students, thus many students based on educational experience only would not be able to envision themselves in a career. Rather the inter-relationships and external factors such as peer influences and internal factors such as maternal influences and the mother-daughter relationship were examined to uncover to what extent a woman?s self perception and career orientation were influenced. The study acknowledged that a woman?s choice of roles and career aspirations were tied to developmental history and the pressures of the social climate (Song, 2001:1)."

The paper offers methodology, data collection and analysis. It also gives a clear conclusion of the findings of the research and recommendations for further research on this topic.

From the Paper
"Meta-analysis begins with estimation of the success rates of treatment and control arms of multiple separate trials through use of a separate 2 X 2 table for each trial. At the point in time that the researcher is convinced that the trials are "sufficiently uniform in design and methods that pooling their results makes clinical sense, a statistical test for homogeneity is used to help decide whether pooling results makes statistical sense." (Gilbert, 2005) After having made the decision that the "studies are sufficiently homogeneous to be combinable, the effect measure has been chosen, and a fixed- or random-effects technique is adopted, the calculations required to perform a meta-analysis are quite simple, usually through use of statistical software."

Abstract
This paper looks at the changes that Japanese women have undergone with respect to their identity. It focuses on the changes since the mid - 20th century. It links the historical changes in Japanese society over the past 150 years with the changes in their women's identity and also looks at social, political, economic and environmental factors that have influenced the identity of Japanese women.

From the Paper
"Before 1868, especially under the Tokugawa Shogunate government, Japanese women had no legal personality. They could not own property and were in fact the property of men who could do with them virtually anything they fancied. At that time, they could read and write only hiragana, but business, political and literary materials were written in the more formal kanji which prevented them from sharing the more fulfilling and dignified world of men."
