Abstract
This paper discusses the social and political movements that developed in the 19th century in Europe, which were based around certain ideas about human behavior and society and the relationship between the two. It argues that these various systems contributed to the rise of modernity by rejecting the older, more authoritarian systems and pressing more for a system based on reason and the power of ideas. The paper bases its arguments on D. Mason's book "Revolutionary Europe 1789-1989-Liberty, Equality, Solidarity."

"In international terms, though, the policy was not to let things be but to follow a policy of expansion, moving into parts of the world previously separate and often to impose Western control, as Britain did in India, the Dutch in South Africa, the French in parts of Africa, and so on. This has also been called the age of imperialism, and the growth of empire is the basic subject of this book, showing how the nations of Europe expanded into the Third World, imposed various levels of administration and control, exploited resources, and created a different relationship between Europe and the rest of the world. In the long run, this expansion did not so much alleviate regional tensions as expand these as well, spreading some nations too thin to maintain control of their acquisitions, and in other cases creating new battlegrounds for old enmities. The consolidation of European influence ended with the horrors of the Great War in 1914, later leaving a world divided on new lines, with the Soviet Union a different sort of counter force, and with the nations of Europe releasing themselves from colonial obligations over time."

The western model of education is based almost exclusively upon lecture, experience and review, is graduated in complexity and content over time, and covers, in general, approximately 12 years of a student's life. The content of lessons, regardless of context and subject, generally follow a specific structure with a philosophy of development that finds its origins in Locke, Rousseau, and Pasteur. During the 19th century, on the heels of the Age of Enlightenment and through the Romantic Era, education underwent fundamental changes. Many different factors influenced the form and content of that education, most significantly, perhaps, being that of nationalizing and standardizing the educational system. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the history of educational systems during the 19th century Europe, differences in gender-involvement, the influence of Napoleon, Locke, Rousseau, Pasteur and other thinkers from the Enlightenment and Romantic periods, all with the intent of demonstrating how our modern model of education has been shaped and determined by these factors.

Abstract
This paper discusses how since the beginning of the nineteenth century, the existence of slavery and the subverting of women?s rights, both symbolic of fundamental inequality among all citizens within society, have urged American reformers to constantly call for social changes. It examines how these changes were heavily influenced by education reform, immense immigration, industrialization, urbanization and further development of national identity throughout the century. The first all female college, Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, was established in 1832 by Mary Lyon. Other female colleges were founded in the years to follow, such as Elmira Female College in 1855 and Vassar Female College in 1865 both located in New York. It reached London in early 1832" (Athanassoglou-Kallmyer 686). This first outbreak was the worst, and was completely baffling to the people and to health professionals. They could not cure the disease, they could not control its spread, and it continued to occur in later years, which was even more frightening. There were several other outbreaks later in the nineteenth century, which did not kill as many as the first had, which some estimate killed up to 90,000 people in England. The second major outbreak was in 1848-1849, the third in 1853-1854, and the final outbreak took place in 1866."
