Abstract This paper discusses how, out of all the Nazi leaders aligned with Adolph Hitler, Albert Speer stands out as one of the greatest mysteries. It attempts to discover how such a refined, well-educated man, from such a good background, ended up as second-in-command to one of the century?s most abusive and tyrannical despots. Through a review of his autobiography, "Inside the Third Reich: Memoirs", it shows how, although he was born to a wealthy family, well-educated, son of a respected architect, and trained as an architect, Speer seems a tremendous misfit when compared to the army private who terrorized the entire Western world for more than decade.
From the Paper "Speer acknowledged that he quickly came to accept events that most people would have been appalled by. Early in Speer?s new career, Hitler ordered Speer to remodel a building immediately. One official by the name of Papen asked for a few months? time, and Speer reported this back to Hitler. Hitler was enraged, so Speer began one of Papen?s assistants had been executed in his office. Speer, supervising the renovations, saw the blood on the floor, but was strangely unmoved by the sight. This suggests to the reader that it wasn?t really much of a stretch for Speer to accept what many people would have found entirely unacceptable. Nevertheless, the irresistible draw the architectural opportunities had for him clearly were immense."

In a sense, he speculated that each man has to search for his own truth. In finding his own truth, Nietszche would urge us to question those truths constantly, to make sure in ourselves that what we are believing in is true. "

They had attempted an amphibious landing in Mobile Bay, with the intention of destroying the city of Mobile, and then advancing on New Orleans. Andrew Jackson, in command of the American irregulars in the South repulsed the British. "Not only did he successfully defend the entrance to Mobile Bay against a powerful amphibious expedition sent by the British to capture and destroy Mobile, but his men had blown the enemy flagship out of the water and repulsed the King's forces, inflicting 232 casualties." After that, Jackson, defying the orders of the Secretary of War, James Monroe, decided to march East to Pensacola where he defeated the British again."

"There were over 70,000 Confederates involved in the Battle of Gettysburg. Of those men, 3,903 died, 18,735 were wounded, and 5,425 were missing, for a grand total of 28,063 men lost. That is about 40 percent of the soldiers who fought the battle. The percentage of men lost on the last day was much higher. Total losses on both sides came to 51,053.
"The Battle of Gettysburg was a major turning point in the Civil War. More men were lost in this battle than any other battle of the Civil War. After such a crushing defeat, Lee was never again able to launch a full-scale offensive on Union ground. The battle was also a landmark in the minds of people for years to come. Abraham Lincoln quoted in November 1863, ?The world? can never forget what they did here.? On December 16, 1944 the German army began their "Ardennes Offensive" in the Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg. The "Battle of the Bulge", as it became known, is Adolph Hitler's "last stand" against the Allied forces. Hitler knew that if the Americans managed to penetrate the German front lines, it would signal the beginning of the end for the Third Reich. The paper takes the student through the history of the battle and how the Allied forces, though ill-prepared and utterly taken by surprise, managed to fight back to victory. This battle serves as one of the greatest military engagements in the war in Europe, and some historians compare it to the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. It is also the worst battle, in terms of loss, to the American forces during World War II.
