Abstract The information that has been successfully synthesized from the five articles on leadership presents a clear picture that leadership, when properly applied, can act as a catalyst in directing the course of an organization. The range of the five articles shows this to be the case regardless of context, for within the five articles the type of studies charted both school and business- oriented forms of organization.
Abstract The paper examines how in the modern business world, companies are forced to contend with a globalized marketplace that results in a focus on technology and competition in the labor force that was once only a national concern. Companies are consistently being forced to change the way that they do business and incorporate new business practices into their organizational culture as a means of survival. The paper discusses that although each of these factors affect business, the management often looses sight of the people that allow the products to be produced or that provide the services that are essential to the success of the corporation.
Abstract The paper discusses the nature of business management as an applied science and states that business management is limited to one component of the economic system, namely the individual organization. The profitable performance of a business is dependent on attaining pre-designed objectives and to make its services as productive and efficient as possible. The paper continues and discusses the roles of leadership and management and concludes that the interaction between the concept of management and that of leadership should not obscure or neglect their intrinsic differences.

Conclusion
From the Paper "This view would seem to imply that management and leadership are two different things. While the point that Dubin makes is valid, yet it must also be acknowledged that in today's dynamic and complex environment, management in the more traditional sense of delegation, ordering and organization may not be sufficient to deal with the many elements of modern business and organizational demands. In other words, one perspective in this debate would see the conflation and reduction of the two terms as theoretically incorrect, and that in a more practical sense these two terms coexist and that leadership has become in many instances a necessary and intrinsic component of managing."
Abstract This article examines the research on leadership and subordinate resilience research that was enacted by Harland and other academic business management colleagues. The basis of the article's research and methodology tests the reactions to 150 college students on relation to leadership 'resilience' managerial theories within a subordinate testing hierarchy. This paper actively asks 150 students to define and respond to questions regarding subordinate resilience, centering the research on the ability of leaders to actively take part in leading people in the business world. The main question the researchers that the paper poses is: 'Does Laisse Faire (passive leadership) leadership work well in business environments?'

From the Paper "There are a number of important qualities that make a leader a leader in today's corporate world, but one of the most important is the ability to motivate people at every level of their corporation. Motivating is a key aspect of leadership and is critical to business success in the hyper-competitive global economy of the twenty-first century. Consequently, the leaders of today's most dynamic and successful corporations personify motivational leadership because they understand its immense value and recognize that it is the primary reason for their dominance over their competitors. "

Abstract Leadership has been a subject that has received much attention in the business world. Two authors that have provided important information on the subject are Stephen R. Covey, in "Principle Centered Leadership", and John P. Kotter, in "What Leaders Really Do". Both of these authors offer new ideas on the subject, Covey by describing an alternative approach to leadership, and Kotter by providing a thorough analysis of what real managers are doing wrong. This paper provides an overview of both books before applying these theories to a the author's position as manager of a furniture store.
From the Paper "It is also worth noting that whether or not human aspects of employees are recognized, they continue to exist. For example, if someone tends to be lazy, this is not going to go away just because we say people should not be lazy. A more understanding approach would recognize that all people can become lazy when they are in jobs that they consider boring or unfulfilling. Recognizing this then gives the leader the opportunity to develop an effective solution. In this way, being understanding is of benefit to both the individual and the business."
Abstract This paper discusses the ethical issues in leadership traits that are prevalent in the corporate world, specifically in the banking industry. The paper presents the solutions that are possible in event of unethical conduct. A brief overview of a survey is provided, illustrating the significance of moral leadership in the business world, and examining its influence on the work force.
From the Paper "Ethics can be defined as those steps that safeguard integrity of an individual or a society. The focus of this paper is however limited to ethics in organizations, belonging specifically to the banking industry.
Acting in accordance with ethics translates into accommodating moralistic behavior into one's conduct. Hence ethical conduct in businesses, though not very popular, plays an important role in formation of a healthy society. For instance the banking sector of any economy plays the key role in circulation of money and hence in maintenance of economy."
Abstract This report looks at the different types of leadership and attempts to define what true leadership is. The report focuses primarily on positive leadership, giving a few examples of good and bad leadership as they are reflected in the ultimate measure of the company's performance and effectiveness within its market. The report also discusses some common leadership approaches, again focusing on teamwork and also assessing different roles of other approaches to leading in the organizational environment. Finally, the report assesses how leadership impacts employee motivation factors.
What Does Leadership Mean?
Common Leadership Approaches
Leadership and Employee Response/Motivation
From the Paper "Looking at leadership in the contemporary organizational environment, one is met with many definitions and approaches to a subject that is often described as being more accurately felt than known (the description of true leadership). This makes leadership something that is difficult for extant literature to define and quantify. Before looking at
leadership in this environment in more detail, however, attention must also be paid to the firm or organization that is being represented or called forth as an example, and its holistic position as a reflection of society (although the organization also exhibits lacunae that are different from the society, creating a more insular portrait). Leadership, that is, exists within a firm or organization that is a reflection of the society outside of its walls. And, "As in any society, a center exists in the firm which functions as a central value system, its existence resting on the fact that human beings have a need for personal communion, for incorporation into something which transcends their single existence
(Shils 1975). Common to all of these social pressure mechanisms is the attempt to foster commitments, identifications, and loyalties" (Koza and Thoenig, 2003). Leadership is a dynamic factor within this setting of social pressure mechanisms and the struggle of singular existence in the organizational environment, but it, as mentioned above, is also a subject of somewhat vague definition in textually relevant sources, leading to a multiplicity of possible definitions for leadership."

Abstract The writer explains the importance of having these three basic skills in today's business world of fierce competition. Motivation encourages the pursuit of goals, strong leadership opens the channels of communication for the employees and creates the strong team, whilst team building forms the atmosphere of trust and integrity that is crucial to productive work. It concludes that a leader with the right qualities is vital for the success of the business.
From the Paper "Competition is brutal and the market continues to shrink due to communication technologies. It is important in leadership to embrace change and stick to a vision. By having Emotional Intelligence one can "recogise the physical and mental signs of our feelings/emotions before we can act on them meaningfully and constructively" (Eby Ruin par. 20). It is by recognizing these attributes that one can build an effective team structure. A leader acts as a coach to not only reinforce the game plan with directions but also encourage creativity, new ideas and acquiring new skills. A leader should implement new and fun ways to learn on the job while offering rewards for excellence. Today's organization is not about just a pay check but a rewarding career. A leader can define the environment for striving toward an experience that matters."

The paper discusses the belief that a business' success will be realized if the business is built upon an ethical foundation. The paper further discusses the belief that an ethical culture will guide organizations through the difficulties and the decisions they face.

Summary/Conclusion
From the Paper "Those who have paid attention to the changes that have been going on in the business world and what was perceived to be the comparatively small differences between leadership styles should now be more aware that there are definite and distinct differences between the situational style of leadership and the servant style of leadership. Many managers are reading books that deal with the differences between the styles so that they can be aware of the strengths and weaknesses to be found in the styles and the ways that they are used - sometimes these have been believed to be somewhat gender specific, but that idea is changing (Freed, 2003). Not only is this significant in the fact that it indicates a desire for understanding of different leadership styles, but it also helps these individuals to be more comfortable in dealing with those who have different styles and opinions."
Abstract This paper compares and contrasts four leadership models and determines the similarities and differences between them. Thus each model might address the contemporary leadership issues and challenges in the workforce. The paper states that in this study, the models and theories are used synonymously. The paper compares and contrasts the following four leadership models: (1) transactional; (2) transformational; (3) path-goal theory; and (4) action-centered leadership.
Outline:
Transformational Leadership Transactional Leadership Path-Goal Theory Of Leadership Action-Centered Leadership Summary And Conclusion
From the Paper "There are three pillars, which the ethics of transformational leadership rest upon: (1) The moral character of the leader; (2) The ethical values embedded in the leader's vision, articulation, and program which followers either embrace or reject; and (3) The morality of the processes of social ethical choice and action that leaders and followers engage in and collectively pursue. Transformational leadership has been found to be effective in many settings including schools, businesses, and even in leading behavioral changes among those that have failed to respond to other styles of leadership. This type of leadership involves inspiration of the followers to reach beyond their present set of abilities in gaining new skills and reaching previously unattainable goals."
Abstract This paper discusses leadership effectiveness, leadership style, and employee readiness based on a journal article by Chen and Silverthorne entitled, "Leadership Effectiveness". It describes a study conducted to test the Situation Leadership Theory.

Abstract This paper discusses John Maxwell's book, "The Twenty-One Irrefutable Laws of Leadership". The paper suggests that the book is based upon the philosophy that leadership is the cornerstone of successful business and that it is through individuals that strive to do what is right, that true leaders emerge. It describes how Maxwell contends that leadership exists in every society, all organizations and throughout the generations, yet, leaders often require new ideologies to inspire them in the leadership of others.
From the Paper "Summary of The Book: The Twenty-One Irrefutable Laws of Leadership The laws, Maxwell contends, have the ability to be learned by anyone who is devoted to leadership. While many leaders are naturally inclined to fulfill these roles, there are just as many individuals within organizations who must acquire the talent of successful leadership. Maxwell further suggests that the 21 laws have the ability to be the only guidance for the leader when the laws are addressed with conviction. "
