Abstract
This paper first explains that the Jewish Defense League (JDL) was and continues to be among the most controversial of Jewish groups in the United States. Next, the author traces the growth of American Rabbi Meir Kahana's religious, right-wing Jewish fundamentalist JDL from its roots in Ze'ev Jabotinsky's secular, anti-religious revisionist Zionism. The paper stresses that, through the strong influence of the 1960s American society, the JDL and Rabbi Kahane wanted to instill a Jewish pride in American-Jews as a form of nationalism just as the Black Panthers wanted for the African-Americans.
From the Paper
"America was on the brink. Groups such as the Black Panthers and the Manson Family were making the news, the country was in a state of constant change and turmoil between the Vietnam War, the inter-city riots, and assassinations, the country was in its bloodiest time since the Second World War. It was during this heavily changing, unsure, but highly prosperous time, that Meir Kahane founded the Jewish Defense League. The Jewish community was leaving the cities, out to the suburbs and previously Jewish neighborhoods were changing racially and economically. "

Abstract
This paper explains that many are unaware that Jewish extremism, which represents a fundamentalist religious viewpoint, is becoming quite a dangerous force as terrorist groups in the State of Israel. However, the author relates that, prior to the establishment of Israel, Jewish extremism had its earliest form in the secular Revisionist Zionism of Zeev Jabotinsky and Avraham Stern and serves as a model for the religious extremists today. Next, the paper traces the beliefs and teachings of Rabbi Meir Kahane and his political party from which contemporary Jewish extremism, especially in the occupied territories ,developed.
From the Paper
"As horrifying as the Goldstein incident was, nothing would prepare Israel for its next major attack. A little over a year later, on November 4th 1995, right wing Jewish extremist Yigal Amir assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin at a peace rally for the Oslo Accords. Amir and the rest of the extremist right wing were strongly opposed to the Oslo Accords that called for Israeli withdrawal from sections of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as well as the creation of the Palestinian Authority. Their opposition to the accords was for a number of reasons."
