Abstract
This paper explains that speakers of a language such as English in which the grammatical diminutive plays an insignificant part, the fact that other languages use the diminutive so frequently can seem rather quaint. The paper goes on to say that the diminutive is a highly useful grammatical structure, one that speakers of languages without a diminutive have to compensate for in various often less than elegant ways. This paper examines the grammatical diminutive in the Romance languages.

Abstract
This paper explains that the decrease in the use of alcoholic beverages in the U.S. and Europe is because alcoholic beverages, which once had a status as almost indispensable diet items, today are commodities of discretionary consumption. The paper relates that this shift was affected by several factors, including demographic changes, economic shifts, new social pressures, a growing health consciousness and direct action of the temperance movement. The paper also relates that teenage drinking is still a problem since young people are not given norms by which to judge their own behavior and thus emulate what they see in the adult world without the social anchor to do so responsibly.

Abstract
This paper shows how humankind's interaction with the environment in the late 20th century and early 21st century, particularly the diminution of natural resources such as fossil fuels, is causing problems that will perhaps lead to a localized global culture in the future. The paper begins by defining key terms such as 'environment' and by giving a brief background to bring issues into the postmodern perspective. The paper delineates the impact on the environment of oil, gas, coal and freshwater shortages; deforestation; air pollution; DDT; Teflon; population growth; and mass consumerism (particularly tourism and technology) as a product of globalization. The paper also supports the ideas presented in environment-conflict theory, arguing that unless speedy efforts are made to find new energy sources and reduce current energy consumption it is possible that the world may revert to a factional global society similar to that of over two centuries ago.

"The movement towards a more localized organization of societies around the world is being pushed environmentally not only by the depletion of fossil fuels but by the pollution of the environment as a result of consumption in the globalized world. DDT (a pesticide) and other 'Persistent Organic Pollutants' (POPs) pose both risks to human health and possible long-term effects on the local environment. DDT has a half life of between 2-15 years and is immobile in most soils and can persist for weeks in rivers and lakes."

Abstract
The paper argues that the rights of the individual are most likely to deteriorate in societies that are plagued by excessively high birthrates and by high population density. The paper explains the utilitarian reasoning behind this principle as well as the simple fact that something of which there is a lot is going to be of lesser per capita value than something of which there is very little. The paper shows how over-population logically brings about a diminution in individual rights.

Abstract
From the War of Mexico through the present, the Army and the Navy have worked together seamlessly in many operations. A key attribute to the success of these operations is leadership. Both services have separate definitions and ideologies on how leadership is structured. This paper depicts some of these differences at a basic level and allows one to see how the effectiveness of these two branches is not diminutive, even with the differences in leadership. The paper includes a table of contents and a graph.

Abstract
This paper reviews book 18 of "The Iliad", an epic tale told by the famous Greek author Homer which is focused primarily on the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. Book 18 focuses on Achilles break from battle and the importance it has on the rest of the poem. It examines how Homer uses his story-telling abilities to focus on the garish and sometimes mundane drudgery of war and how this dark interlude plays a key role in the tone, pitch and drama of the poem. It also looks at how this break from battle also serves to emphasize the literary techniques used to provide imagery for the reader as well as show the actions that Achilles takes that show the first diminution of his self-pity and pride.

Abstract
The paper reviews a contract case involving a young woman who has driven two of her co-workers to work for a number of months and who also drives her younger sibling to school each day. The paper outlines what aspects of traditional British and Canadian contract law are applicable and explores what obligations the driver has to each of the three individuals discussed above. The paper shows how oral contracts, while more difficult to enforce in a court of law, are nonetheless binding upon the parties involved and impose real terms and conditions that should be respected.

""Sally" is a person who drives to work each day. In so doing, she also brings along with her two co-workers, Mary and George. When she first started giving Mary and George rides to work, she was informed by Mary that the latter would pay her a certain sum of money each month to go towards the cost of gas and towards vehicle maintenance; Mary also told Sally that she would need a month's notice if the latter could not take her to work as she had trouble securing an alternative means of transportation. For his part, George did not offer Sally any money at the start, but the end of the first month did inform Sally that he would give her a certain amount of money each month for the "inconvenience" of having to drop by his house early each morning. Incidentally, Jason is Sally's younger brother and he promises to keep the car clean and "mechanically sound" if she will provide a lift each day."
