Abstract
This paper discusses the life of Bill Gates, founder and chairman of Microsoft. It details his young adult life and how he came to create a new computer operating system. Further, how he built the Microsoft empire and changed technology, business, and society. It also briefly examines a few of the legal cases against Microsoft.
From the paper:
"William or "Bill" H. Gates III is chief executive and co-founder of the largest software company in the world, the Microsoft Corporation. Last year, Microsoft made a $953 million dollar profit on sales of $3.75 billion dollars. As Microsoft's largest stockholder, Bill Gates is worth nearly $6.1 billion, making him this country's second wealthiest man. He is at thirty-eight years old, America's youngest self-made billionaire. Microsoft's $25 billion market value tops that of Ford, General Motors, 3M, Boeing, RJR Nabisco, General Mills, Anheuser-Busch or Eastman Kodak. (Resin "The Bill Gates Interview") This paper will attempt to analyze the character of Bill Gates, explain the nature of the corporation he created, and explicate some of the difficulties he and his corporation have faced economically and personally. It will suggest that although Gates has done many controversial things throughout his life as both a man and as chief executive of Microsoft, the overall effects he has had upon the country and upon the computer industry have been positive ones."

Abstract
The paper describes how Bill Gates and Steve Jobs built their empires from polar opposite beginnings; Bill Gates was born with a silver spoon in his mouth while Steve Jobs never even graduated college. The paper then reveals that both Gates and Jobs are college drop outs, although their reasons for dropping out are monumentally different. The paper goes on to discuss how Gates has gained a reputation as a ruthless businessman, and his company was charged with abusing its market power to thwart competition. The paper further argues that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, that is considered as one of the largest philanthropic efforts in the world, invests in corporations that hurt the nations the foundation claims to help. The paper contrasts this to Steve Jobs who has a relatively flawless reputation.
From the Paper
"Two men who dominate the computer world, and by dominate, no other names come close to their empires. Turn on the television. Open a newspaper. Walk down the street. And while walking, put the earphones to that iPod in. For God's sake, go on a computer! They are everywhere. No way to escape it. But there is no need to, and there should be no want. We need them. We need their masterpieces. These two men, each in their own right, have opened up thousands of possibilities for millions of people around the globe. Creation, innovation, and success. Three words familiar to both. But two of the greatest computer geniuses known to mankind, are so utterly and extensively unalike. The Einstein behind Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates, and the mastermind behind Apple, Stephen Jobs, are the faces behind everything on the web. However, they each built their own domain, in their own way, starting from birth. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs arise from shockingly separate backgrounds, and although they both dropped out of college, the reasons are not comparable. Further, they each carved their own distinct and divergent paths of education and growth after a brief stint in "higher learning". And after they both hit it big, the public eye cast them in shining, opposing lights."

Abstract
The paper attempts to shed light on the factors that have made Bill Gates the ideal leader. The paper labels Gates as a visionary, a natural entrepreneur with marketing talent, as well as a leader who pays attention to innovation. The paper also discusses how Gates is extremely organized and empowers employees to compete among themselves and create results. The paper relates that while he has been criticized for his controlling nature, Gates has led Microsoft to be one of the most successful companies on the planet, and has reached the position of becoming the world's richest man.
From the Paper
"Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle Washington. His father is a Seattle attorney, and his mother was a schoolteacher and eventually the chairwoman of the philanthropic group United Way International. Gates attended public school in Seattle, and then attended the private Lakeside School, where he first discovered his love for computers when he was only 13. Gates attended Harvard, but never graduated. Instead, his love of computers grew, and he developed a new version of the BASIC computer language while he was still attending the school. Gates left Harvard in his junior year to devote his time to Microsoft, the company he and friend Paul Allen first developed in 1975. Devoted to developing software for the Personal Computer (PC) market, Microsoft has been a success almost ever since, and many believe it is largely due to Gates' leadership and foresight into the computer market (Editors, 2007)."

Abstract
This paper presents a brief biographical background of Bill Gates, the head of the Microsoft empire. The paper examines how Gates revolutionized and standardized proprietary software and continues to expand his empire's reach to include search engines and music downloading. The paper contends that Gates remains brash, eager, and able to capitalize upon the opportunities of the marketplace; he is also willing to offend to gain riches and exposure. The paper agrees that the combination may prove irritating to his competitors and even stymie competition, but one must at least acknowledge the power of personal computing and the contribution Gates has made, even though he did not make his technical or his business contributions alone.
From the Paper
"According to the official Microsoft website that chronicles his life and times, Bill H. Gates was born on Oct. 28, 1955, Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters. ("Biography: Bill Gates," 2004) His beginnings were as unpretentious as they were low-tech. Gates' father, William H. Gates II, was a Seattle attorney. The Gates' children late mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington regent, and chairwoman of United Way International. Thus Gates was not 'to the manner born,' despite his current great wealth, although his mother's altruism may sponsor his current foundation and the spirit of volunteerism the foundation is designed to foster."

Abstract
This paper traces the career of computer genius, Bill Gates from his beginnings as a high school student interested in computers to the designing of his first computer with Paul Allen, the "Traf-O-Data". The paper then shows Gates' move to the development of BASIC and the founding of the Microsoft Company. The paper also examines the price Gates has had to pay for his monopoly on the computer market in the form of antitrust violations, as well as the various areas of the computer market that Microsoft covers.
From the Paper
"Not all companies involved with telecommunications are interested in working so intimately with Microsoft. Nokia, the Finnish cell phone manufacturer, has its own software and a rival operating system (Taylor, 2002). If Nokia is successful, consumers will have a choice between at least two software systems for expanded telecommunicating. Motorola and Qualcomm also have their own independent plans for telecommunications software. Hewlett-Packard has come out with a hand-held computer that includes a "smart" phone. The HP Omnigo 700 can send and receive faxes and data faxes as well as short messages (Weinberg, 1995). It reminds consumers of the advent of VCR's. For some time after VCR technology developed, two formats existed -- BETA and VHS. Consumers really didn't know which one would emerge dominant for several years. Eventually, the needs of the industry as well as consumers demanded one standard format, and VHS won out."

Abstract
This paper examines Bill Gate's personality traits in light of the personality theories of Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers, as well as via his accomplishments. His traits consistent with Asperger's Syndrome are detailed, as well as well as his superior leadership.
From the Paper
"Great leaders exist in many areas of public life from government to private industry but despite their differences they often have traits in common. Bill Gates for example has been compared with Virgin's Richard Branson and Direct Line's Peter Wood who-although all three have amassed huge fortunes from building successful empires appear on the surface to have little in common. (Mazur) However closer scrutiny reveals that all three men are described as focused, commercially intuitive and innovative as well as obsessed with customer satisfaction."
