Abstract
This paper examines how Asians are represented in the various media and how accurate these representations are. It looks particularly at how Japanese women are portrayed, and how their portrayal has changed over the last century. It covers movies, television and literature and misrepresentation of Asian women.
From the Paper
"Asians have always been portrayed to the world as defined by American media stereotypes. This has been done with little knowledge of the Asian people and with little concern for how the image would affect Asian Americans. Asian faces and accents are represented as anything distinctly un-American or counter to Western culture. No distinction is made between Asian Americans who have lived in this country for generations and are completely Americanized, and Asian nationals who have no loyalty to the United States. Hollywood has typically restricted its portrayal..."

Abstract
This essay will explore the complications of discussing race and racism in terms of other groups such as Aboriginals and Asians. I would argue that the prejudice directed against people of African heritage is of a fundamentally different order than that directed at other groups such as Asians. This fact suggests the inadequacies of racism as a broad concept, and indicates the need for a more careful revision of this concept.

Abstract
This paper argues that the politics of sub continental Asia do continue to put forth significant pressure upon the nature and characteristics of community relations between British South Asians. The paper explains the meaning of inter-community and intra-community relations and the nature of communalism within British South Asian communities. The paper also stresses that the impact of protracted and concerted religious and ethnic differences has been translated negatively into the political realm and has been given a wholly British dimension.
From the Paper
"Firstly, the issue of the global Islamic resurgence is of vital importance here. Since the 1970s the Muslim faith has undergone a relative transformation, as personified by the Iranian revolution in 1979. Now we must be very careful not to overemphasize the scope and magnitude of Islamic fundamentalism. However, it nevertheless remains the case that in recent decades a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam has been propelled in many areas of world and often taken to be the real understanding of the Islamic faith. It is not necessary here to examine in detail the nature of this fundamentalism or the validity it achieves across the world."

Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of how media representations of Asians and Hispanics in the U.S. film and television industry have become less stereotypical in light of various trends.
From the Paper
"The values, beliefs and customs of the dominant group in society are often reinforced by social institutions like the government, business, education and the media. The establishment of images in the media reinforces the values of the dominant group in American society, primarily white male Anglo-Saxon Protestants. When immigrant groups or other cultures are portrayed in the media quite often their representation is portrayed as somehow inferior to the superior portrayals of the dominant cultural group."

Abstract
The paper discusses how urbanism is well known to have sometimes negative consequences for people and this can be ironic, especially for families that immigrate to Canada to give their children the benefits of growing up in a modern Canadian city. The paper looks at how other families, such as some Asian families, send their children to live and study in Canada, while the parents work hard at home and send money to their children. The paper shows how, unfortunately, the outcome is not always as pleasant as the families expect.

Unfortunately, the outcome is not always as pleasant as the families expect. The community I am examining is young Asian males in Vancouver. I was attracted to study this community by a story I read in the Vancouver Sun."

Abstract
This paper is an analysis of Canadian South Asian second generation attitudes towards the choosing of a marriage partner. Traditional South Asian convention for marriage is that the parents and relatives choose the partner through a complex set of rules which may involve caste, astrology, and community factors. The case is made that second generation South Asian Canadians maintain individualistic attitudes as compared to collectivistic attitudes of the first generation group and this plays a large part in the first generation choosing partners for themselves.
From the Paper
"South Asia is a region with one of the oldest extant cultures on the planet. Marriage is a time honoured tradition in this culture and the rituals and significance of this juncture in life have been passed down..."

Abstract
In this article, the writer presents an analysis of three films--'Dragon Seed', 'Sayonara' and 'The Fall of the I-Hotel', focusing on the depiction of Asians from the Orientalist standpoint in the Hollywood movies and contrasting it with the realistic picture of Asian Americans in a polemical documentary.
From the Paper
"The purpose of this research is to examine the depiction of Asian communities in three films two made in Hollywood by non-Asians and one made independently by an Asian American filmmaker 'Dragon Seed', 'Sayonara' and 'The Fall of the I-Hotel'. The plan of the research will be to set forth the patterns of ideas in the films and then discuss the means by which they arrive at their respective portrayals of Asian experience. Two of the films under consideration 'Dragon Seed' and 'Sayonara' provide a window into ..."
