The writer refers to David Horowitz's paper, "Ten Reasons Why Reparation Payments for Slavery Are a Bad Idea" and explains why he supports Horowitz's argument that today's society holds no responsibility for our ancestors' mistakes. The writer outlines Horowitz's main ideas, including the fact that black Africans and Arabs were also responsible for enslaving the ancestors of African-Americans, only a tiny minority of Americans ever owned slaves and the fact that many cultures have immigrated to the U.S. after slavery was abolished; why should they pay reparations? The writer further discusses Horowitz's arguments that no one today is still alive that was a former slave, the reparations claim is one more attempt to turn African-Americans into victims and the bloodiest war in American history was already fought to free slaves. The writer concludes that as a society, we need to look forward to the future, not look back into the past.
From the Paper:"Mr Horowitz is president of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, a conservative think tank in Los Angeles, California. He is the author of "Uncivil Wars: The Controversy over Reparations for Slavery" and "Hating Whitey and Other Progressive Causes." His article on why a reparation payment for slavery to African Americans is a bad idea has many valid points. He lists 10 reasons on why he feels this way. I support his argument and have had many black friends while I was enlisted in the Navy. I can assure the reader that none of my black shipmates would support a reparation payment for slavery. They were strong individuals and would have seen this as a weakness as well as being portrayed as victims, a trait that they would not have wanted bestowed upon them."
