Abstract This paper covers many of the topics dealing with the education of the hearing impaired. It looks at several of the methods of communication employed by the hearing impaired (oral, sign, etc.), deaf culture, technology for the deaf (cochlear implants, text telephones (TTY), hearing aids, etc.), teaching strategies for working with deaf students in a mainstream classroom, interpreters, books containing deaf characters, and strategies for improving literacy (reading and writing). Included in the paper are an introduction, a detailed annotatedbibliography divided into the sections listed in the subtitle, and a conclusion. Also included are an appendix of additional sources and a series of tables for quick review of what is covered in the annotatedbibliography.
From the Paper "The education of deaf students has been an issue of debate for centuries. Some people believe that deaf students, preschool through college level, should be in a self-contained classroom or special school. Others believe that mainstreaming deaf students into a regular classroom is the best way to prepare these people to function in the hearing world. The Education for All Act of 1975, mandating that children should be provided education in the least restrictive environment, has led to more deaf children entering regular public schools."

"This work is a paper on the "parallels between the life and thinking of the Japanese educator and activist Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944) and the great American philosopher John Dewey (1859-1952)." The writing tells of the similarities in the philosophy of Dewey and Makiguchi relating to experiential learning. Stated in this work is: "As contemporaries, Dewey and Makiguchi shaped and were shaped by the intellectual milieu of the latter half of the nineteenth century, the legacy of Durkheim, Darwin, Hegel and Kant." Abstract This paper introduces, discusses, and analyzes the book "The Annotated Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. Specifically, the paper discusses the role of doubles in the novel, and their importance in terms of the overall meaning and implication of the novel. The paper relates that, in this controversial and risque novel, Humbert and Quilty are doubles of each other, with Quilty representing the dark, evil side of Humbert's personality. They seem opposite during much of the book, but in reality, they are very much alike in many ways, and in the end, they blur together into one tragic and demented character
From the Paper "Humbert and Quilty seem in direct opposition for much of this sexy novel. Humbert is French, Quilty is American, and they both disdain the other's country. Humbert is a literary snob, while Quilty is a cheap porn producer. Humbert is obsessed with Lolita, and will do just about anything to have her, from marrying her mother to attempting to locate her all across the country. Quilty, on the other hand, although he tracks them throughout the country, is not as obsessed with Lolita, and actually throws her out when she refused to star in his next porn film. Humbert is psychotic and has spent time in institution, while Quilty is content to manipulate his friends and her, never admitting there might be something wrong with him. While Humbert seems to almost revere Lolita, and at first, he did not want to molest her, Quilty, in contrast, is a "complete freak in sex matters" (Nabokov 278)."

Abstract This paper explains that the original Pledge of Allegiance, written in 1882 by a Christian Socialist Baptist minister, Francis Bellamy, stated, ?I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.? The author points out that the phrase, "under God", which was added in 1954, has raised questions of its constitutionality because it may violate the concept of separation of church and state. The paper relates that the argument for the pledge revolves around the points that God is not bad for the American people or that supporters do fully concur with the idea of the separation of church and state. For example, in 1923 and 1924, against Bellamy's wishes, the American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution changed the words 'my Flag,' to 'the Flag of the United States of America.' Statistical analysis has to be done by someone skilled in the use of statistics, and the research design must be carefully planned (Beckford, 2002). The computer saying "GIGO" - Garbage In, Garbage Out - applies to statistics as well. In addition, because statistics are so narrowly focused, their trend is somewhat contrary to Systems Thinking.
