Abstract
This paper compares "The Nanny Diaries" and "About a Boy" as two examples adopted from 'chick lit' and what might be called 'lad lit'. The paper examines the characteristics of these two types of literature using the two books as examples. The paper also analyzes any differences in their authors' major preoccupations, interests, and approaches to gender. This paper argues that the two books put forward a model of what is feminine and masculine that are not traditional in the patriarchal sense, but that nevertheless do have some traditional aspects, particularly in terms of the approach to romantic relationships.

Abstract
The author of this paper examines the poem "About Face" by Alice Fulton. The poem appears in the Fulton's volume of poetry entitled "Sensual Math", first published in 1995. The paper analyzes the poem from three different viewpoints. Firstly the paper looks at the poem from a formalistic viewpoint. Following that, the paper analyzes the poem from a psychoanalytical viewpoint. Lastly, the paper examines the poem from a Marxist standpoint.
From the Paper
"Alice Fulton's poem, "About Face," although subtle, is filled with the Marxist philosophy about people being in their proper places in the power hierarchy. The subject is immediately aware of the economic power and the structure in place to keep the powerful on top. She appears to take her cue from a distorted perception indicating she doesn't need the property or the control of the bourgeoisie; however, she is merely fooling herself. The poem represents the possessions and power of control that she really wants in her own life, but deep down inside realizes she is a part of the proletariat, or common people, and probably will never achieve those goals and rise any higher in that hierarchy."

Abstract
This paper discusses the techniques used to edit the movie 'About a Boy'. According to the paper, some of the more common techniques apparent in this movie are wipes, dissolve shots, shot/counter-shot, cross cuts, axial cuts, jump cuts, montages and freeze frames.
From the Paper
"Dissolve shots are also evident. The first is when we see a shot of Marcus's hamster, which fades out and then focuses on Marcus in the background. Dissolve shots are also used through the next few scenes of Marcus, not so much for transition, but for an emotional effect as well as to indicate a lapse of time.
Most of the beginning of the film is made up of close-ups of small actions, so the first master shot we see is when Will drives away from this flat on his way to his sister's house to see her new baby, Imogene. This sets up the location of Will's flat as a small oasis, or island as Will likes to consider it, in the middle of dense civilization."

Abstract
This paper offers a brief review of the book, "About Face:The Odyssey of an American Warrior", written by the retired Army colonel, David Hackworth. The paper explains how Hackworth rose from an illegal enlistee to the highest ranks of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, and eventually becoming an opponent of the Vietnam War.
From the Paper
"If Hackworth was lonely during basic training he doesn't mention it, but as soon as he was deployed, to post-war Italy, he discovered that Europe was really in no position to provide him a beautiful young woman to sit on each knee. He was overwhelmed by the devastation and unrelenting crises the end of the war had brought to the Italian people. He also discovered that where he was, the war wasn't really over yet, because Yugoslavia wanted to take the part of northern Italy he was helping guard as war reparations."

Abstract
The author of this paper examines the phenomena of reality television programs that are a large part of American television programming. The author seeks to discover whether such television programs focus on and bring out the worst aspects of American society or if, they are a mirror reflecting American culture and society as they really are. The author examines these phenomena primarily from a psychological point of view and present arguments and examples from current research and literature.
From the Paper
"However, psychologists and therapists feel that there is an aching psyche in the American culture that is using RTV as a cure, much in the way the Marx referred to religion as being the opiate of the people. Or as one writer updates it, "Is reality TV the crack cocaine of what critic Marie Winn calls the 'plug-in drug?'" (Breyer 100) RTV coupled with the massive bombardment of news, mostly bad, from around the nation and the world is numbing us to any emotional ties to reality. Javors compares RTV shows to the quick fix junk food restaurants and calls them "fast food programs" and states they are as bad for our minds as a constant diet of Double Whoppers with cheese and Chocolate Milk shakes would be to our bodies. She states that, "As a result, we are numbing ourselves to very real life challenges." (35)"

Abstract
One of the most engaging and entertaining comedic couples in any of the works of Shakespeare, is that of Beatrice and Benedick in "Much Ado About Nothing". Both Beatrice and Benedick are essences, they are the progenitors of the cliches of the woman-hater turned lover and the ice-queen turned golden-heart. Both of them experience a very similar sequence of events, both work with their respective tutee's in love in the same way, and both come to realize their love for each other through tricks played upon them by their own friends. In this, Benedick and Beatrice are really the true soul-mates of the story in that they truly seem to be of the same cloth and of the same heart - two halves of the same whole. Their change from enmity to love covers the course of the entire play and, in many ways, is much more engaging, funny, entertaining, and ultimately rewarding than that of Hero and Claudio. It is the purpose of this paper to explore that relationship as it changes over the course of the play, "Much Ado About Nothing".
