Abstract
This paper explains that the privacy challenges, which were inherent in DoubleClick's business model and further accentuated by its acquisition of Abacus Direct, have become a precedent for Internet privacy cases and litigation. The advantage of Abacus Alliance to DoubleClick was the ability to segment on additional dimensions, including the use of psychographics, with greater levels of accuracy. The paper relates DoubleClick's response to legal charges and its privacy policy and then provides suggestions for revising the company's information systems architecture.

This wooden rack has horizontal wires with a set of beads attached to it. Each set represents either the ones, tens, hundreds, or thousands place. Abstract
DoubleClick, as a top ad-server company on the Web, inserted banner ads and other promotional messages on Web sites. Those messages were aimed at the most likely customers, using text files called cookies, which allowed DoubleClick to track what people are looking at and build detailed profiles of them. The paper explains that these profiles show how Web surfers, who are identified only by their cookies, move around among sites, including what products they purchased and how long they stayed at a particular site. This paper examines the lawsuits brought against DoubleClick for violation of privacy rights and deceptive business practices. It also discusses the mandates put out by the Federal Trade Commission which regulate the use of personally identifiable information with clickstream data.

Cookies were originally implemented to allow the customization of information for a particular user, such as remembering your name, information you submitted previously on forms, and the contents of shopping carts. Abstract
This paper discusses the vast and significant number of contributions and inventions made throughout history by ancient Chinese civilization. The paper points out that China was the first to introduce a complete school system, made several contributions toward the study of mathematics, invented the seismograph and the compass and developed iron and steel. The paper continues to discuss other significant Chinese inventions that have contributed to the development of all of civilization including paper, fireworks, and the small pox inoculation.
