Written in 2009; 3,311 words; 14 sources; APA; $ 94.95
Paper Summary:
The paper discusses the role of women in the abolitionist movement and explains how that role eventually lead to the women's suffrage movement. The paper provides a timeline of important changes to the anti-slavery and suffrage movements that in turn impacted the civil rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s. The paper highlights how the democratic process influenced the successes of both movements.
From the Paper:
"Although Rosa Parks was an important part of the Civil Rights movement it did not begin with her, nor was she the only woman heavily involved in it. The suffrage and Civil rights movements have gone hand in hand as have the bitter battles that have been a part of our nation's history from the beginning. Liberty of the individual is central to democracy as is the notion of equality. "All men are created equal" according to Jefferson, but what role did he intend for women? And did he intend for black men to one day be considered equal as well? Throughout our history we have struggled to resolve the conflicts between liberty and equality and women and minorities have struggled to enjoy basic rights to participate politically, have equal education, enjoy equal pay and freedom of speech, and live free from discrimination."
