813 words (approx. 3.3 pages) | 2 sources | MLA | 2008

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the American Revolution of 1776. It specifically focuses on how badly Washington's Continental Army was fairing against the British Army. The paper looks at the factors that were against Washington and his troops and then looks at how George Washington and his men battled through the issues and were victorious against the British.

From the Paper:

"I believe that the weather influenced Washington's decision to march towards Colonel Johann Rall's men at Trenton. What did Washington have to lose at this point? The weather was ferocious and his attack plan was behind schedule. By the time the American troops reached Trenton it was broad daylight. The plan was ruined. Or was it? "Washington was well informed about the German dispositions in Trenton. His tactical intelligence was excellent on this day." The British troops were lulled into a false sense of security by the victorious battles in New York and by the horrific weather that was slamming them in the face minute after minute in Trenton. Certainly the British troops did not believe that the Americans would continue towards them in this type of weather. The British were so full of themselves that instead of finally rubbing out the Americans General Howe stopped his military campaign for the winter. What a gift to the Americans. The Americans would be set up perfectly for a winter surprise attack on the sleeping British troops. The regiments that Washington had sent out in different directions to attack Trenton at the same time did succeed in meeting that goal."
