"To have the opportunity to sit back and observe the great St. Augustine of Hippo in dialogue with modern thinker Schubert Ogden concerning issues related to the philosophy of religion, in particular the concept "religion" and "true religion" would be an extraordinary event of post-modernity. Although it is not a dialogue, the first person Ogden quotes on the first page of his book is that of St. Augustine. Again, the quote implies the pre-eminence of Catholic Christianity. Augustine contends that Christianity existed before the triumph of the early Church. During and after the time of Jesus Christ it had become "explicitly" Christianity. Suffice to say, Augustine firmly believes that the Catholic Christian religion can be traced back before the time of Jesus (person and work of Jesus)."
