It looks at how this liturgical proclamation is not simply a reading but an event, a happening, even more it is salvific event. It also examines how, of all the reforms of the mass introduced by the Second Vatican Council Constitution, the one that is bound to bring the greatest transformation and liturgical renewal is the introduction of the new lectionary.

From the Paper:

"The Second Vatican Council firmly asserted the central importance of the scripture in the Church's life and especially in the liturgy where the reading of the scriptures has always found its privileged place. Not only Council but also the teachings of the Popes and various post-conciliar documents of the Roman congregations have already made many excellent statements about the importance of the word of God and about reestablishing the use of scripture in every celebration of the liturgy. The introduction of the 1969 edition of the order of readings for mass has clearly stated and briefly explained some of the more important principles, Sacrosanctum Conilium, no. 24, "Sacred scripture is of paramount importance in the celebration of the liturgy. For it is from scripture that lessons are read and explained in the homily, and psalms are sung, the prayers, collects and liturgical songs are scriptural in their inspiration. "
