A discussion of the status and rights of the women of ancient Greece and Rome.
Written in 2005; 1,503 words; 2 sources; MLA; $ 49.95
Paper Summary:
The paper describes how ancient Rome was a male-dominated society that allowed no education, political rights and almost no civil rights for their women. The paper compares the freedom of free women to that of female slaves and additionally reveals that the women of the lower classes were more accepted as persons in their own right than their richer, more bourgeois, or more aristocratic sisters. The paper then reveals that the Romans treated their women more liberally than the Greeks.
From the Paper:
"Throughout history, women have played a critical part in the foundation of a number of civilizations. Although they may not have founded the individual cities, their presence was necessary for its flourishing. One of the greatest empires in recorded history provides the backdrop for this examination of the role of women in society. Women are the epitome of the silent voices of the Roman Empire. They were always suffering under the control of men, whether by birth, slavery, or marriage."
