Paper Summary:
This paper looks at the Opens Systems Interconnection connecting open systems of communication. The author explains the structure and system of layers representing the packaging of information and its journey from one machine to another on a network.
From the Paper:
"Today's modern computer networks are designed in an extremely structured manner. To reduce their design complexity, most networks are organized in a series of layers. Each one of these layers is built upon the one that came before it. The OSI Reference Model is based on a proposal developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO). The model is called OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Reference Model because it deals with connecting open systems - that is, systems that are open for communication with other systems."
