"Benjamin Franklin is one of the best-known names in American history. As one of the Founding Fathers of the country, Franklin was a man who wore many hats. Not only was he an author and politician, he was also a printer, a political theorist, a diplomat, inventor, scientist, civic activist, and statesman. In the scientific realm, Franklin is regarded as being one of the key figures of the Enlightenment thanks to his discoveries in the field of electricity. Some of Franklin's inventions include the Franklin stove, lightning rod, bifocals, and a carriage odometer. Franklin was responsible for starting America's very first lending library. He also launched the first fire department in Pennsylvania. As one of the inventors of the idea of an American nation, Franklin served as a diplomat in the talks that led to his country securing the French Alliance - which made the American Revolution successful. This essay will explore the fascinating life of one of America's more prominent figures, Benjamin Franklin."
