1,436 words (approx. 5.7 pages) | 1 source | MLA | 2007

Paper Summary:

This paper examines how during the years between 900 and 1300, a new economic revolution, the Industrial Revolution, developed in Western Civilization that would change the way people
lived forever. It looks at how it was a time of dramatic major technological change, leading to a vast increase in the overall quality of life and how it brought about new inventions, improvements in the efficiency of existing methods, as well as a successful search for new sources of energy that increased the industrial life.

From the Paper:

"The first water mill existed in Cabira, in the palace of Mithridates, and consisted of no gears whatsoever (7). It produced a low output of 0.5 horsepower, which was quickly replaced by a more advanced setups, eventually increasing the horsepower to three, then five, and so on (7). The advancement of these machines was rapidly growing, and soon found themselves within one mile of every household. One of the main reasons for developing so many mills is the financial investments that they provided; the mills brought in a substantial amounts of rent. There was also the purchasing and selling of mill shares, "like shares on a cotemporary stock exchange" (13). "
