"The letter envelope is one of the modern inventions which do not have a known author. While the precise date of the envelope's appearance in its modern form is not known, it is very interesting to look at the evolution of letter wrap and trace it back to the beginning of history. The written message or letter can be traced to the very beginning of times and the way in which it has been changed and even transformed throughout the ages points to the general evolution of mankind. While analyzing the evolution of the form or shape and the function of an object, the course of history itself becomes apparent. The design of the envelope can be thus put into relation with the course of history itself, and the constant movement and development of the human civilization."
