3,013 words (approx. 12.1 pages) | 10 sources | MLA | 2008 Philippines

Paper Summary:

This paper charts the history of the American state of California and its development throughout the years. It also provides a geographical description of the State.

From the Paper:

"The 31st state in the western United States, California stretches 158,693 square miles of diverse landscape consisting of mountains, hills, ridges and peaks along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, rising at almost 15,000 feet in Sierra Nevada, round the basin of the Central Valley and separating the desert into innumerable basins (Rolle). The lowest point in the country can be found in the Death Valley, which measures 282 feet below sea level and the highest peak outside Alaska in Mount Whitney, which stands 14,491 feet. Of the 51 members of the Union, California claims the highest number of national parks and national forests, the highest farm output value in the country and the leading producer of many crops. It also registers the highest annual volume of construction, manufacturing, population, car population, civil aircrafts and enrollment in colleges and universities. Despite these geographical and economic features of its uplands, California's urban areas and economic production are concentrated in the valleys and the lowlands, prominently Los Angeles, its largest city and the second largest in the entire country (Rolle). California has also been called the Golden State."
