The Exploitation of African Countries
An overview of the exploitation of African countries by the West.
1,433 words (approx. 5.7 pages) | 9 sources | MLA | 2008

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses how Africa has been the source of international attention for many years and how its political instability, lack of human rights, and abundance of natural resources has made it a hotspot for reporters, opportunists and western business men. It contends that the West has done its fair share in exploiting Africa and that the best way to fix these problems is through empowerment, and education. The West must begin to look at Africa not as a foreign land with foreigners that do not matter, but as an ally that can provide the world with valuable resources. These are the first steps to helping the African continent get out of poverty. The paper includes several photos.

From the Paper:

"In the days of diamonds in Sierra Leone and The Democratic Republic of Congo it was the west that allowed rebels to take over the government, mass murder millions and purchase all of their diamonds illegally. It was only after diamonds were linked to the September 11th attacks, as the means by which the Al-Qaeda got a lot of money to fund terror was the Kimberly Process actually passed. The Kimberly process was the first bill passed that by the United Nations that would harmonize diamond mining globally. Diamonds had to be certified conflict free before they could be sold to any western country, this has made huge improvements but the west has to still hold governments and the industry accountable as not all of them are staying true to the process bylaws."
